Wanting to Go to NewYork Next month. What airport?

Im planing my trip now to NewYork for that party Nina is having.
What airport should I fly into?
I guess there is 3 to choose from?

And what area should I stay in?
How many nights?
Ive never been to NY, and we want to have access to all the shit tourists do in NY. Dont wanna be way out of the area and have to spnd hours a day to get tho the fun shit..

Where should I fly into? And how-what is the best way to get to the hotel from the airport?? ie: subway, taxi, bus. I already know that you dont wanna rent a car in NY.

Help me out here New York GFYers and or people who have traveled to NewYork. Im a rookie when it come to the Big Apple.

JFK for sure, Also its closer to NYC

La Guardia is a fucking mess! Also lots of delays there.

I would stay in the broadway times square area
thats were all the action is..

Try the sheraton in times square, the the theatre district is within walking range from times square, few blocks away.

All 3 airports will take about the same time to get into the city, pick an airport based on which flights and airlines are best for you. Newark can be a bit tougher to get back and forth to the city sometimes.

For hotels I recomend the Sheratons or Marriots, there are 2 or 3 within a few blocks along Broadway, from 45th to 56th streets, the heart of the theatre district. If you want to do the tourist bit, thats a good place to start.

The concierge at the hotels will help with tickets to shows and stuff, or there are several ticket brokers and some have locations inside the hotels.

From the airport to the hotel, if you really want easy, hire a car company to pick you up and take you back, they'll be waiting with a sign for you, just look for your name. Cost a bit more but make life easy.

A travel agent can help arrange all of this for you, or American Express travel if you use them.

Newark, NJ is your best choice.
Unless you want to visit Vince MacMahon, then use Westchester county airport.

its the worst airport in america...

No it isn't... try Ronnie Reagan in DC... the landing gear gets to start its rolling as it rubs across the top of the Washington Monument. 10,000 feet to ground level in a VERY short distance!

H says JFK Bone. He's been in and out of there a few times. But watch the cab and streets, they have a habit of circling blocks to run up the meter if they can get away with it. lol

Younkers?! I'd vote Queens to stay with Archie and Edith!

hmmm. Newark is like 100.00 cheaper to fly into!
Is it really that bad?

And is it really just as easy-difficult to get to where we need to go than say JFK?

Yep, Newark is usually cheaper, and there's a reason :-) It can be tough to get to and from the city, depends on the time of day. It can also cost more to get into the city.

Not huge differences, I fly into there going to the city whenever the flight times work out without a problem.

Hi

I will be at the party too and live here.

Come into JFK or LGA it does not matter I travel almost weekly, JFK is more organized.

The Hudson hotel or the Royalton (better the hudson) trust me there is nothing like make sure you get a nice size room not the regular one.

Also use http://www.hoteldiscounts.com really a no BS money saver

I stay in hotels in NYC some times for the weekend its nice.

The Hudson is not far from time square and all that stuff.

Bone - Take it from someone who lives in the city - ME. Do NOT do LaGuardia...as someone said it IS a mess. Either JFK or Newark. If Newark is cheper, go there...you can take a cab into the city real quick. As far as hotels, I agree with Farbie - Times Square area is nice. But basically anywhere is fine if you got the doh for cabs. Just stay below 85th ST and outta china town and you'll be fine.

Priceline breaks the area's down into catagories for hotel.

Which is the area to be? Or to Stay that is if we choose to use priceline?

1) Upper West Side:

The Upper West Side spans from west 62nd Street north to west 94th Street over to Riverside Drive. Central Park borders the Upper West Side to the east and is a wonderful place to escape the hustle of the city for an afternoon stroll. Coffee bars and trendy restaurants line the sidewalks of Broadway and Columbus Avenue.

2) Upper Midtown - Central Park South

Upper Midtown - Central Park South encompasses the streets adjacent to all sides of the Central Park South area, from the west at 62nd Street and Columbus Avenue and from the east at 62nd Street and Park Avenue, south to 56th Street. This prestigious area includes Bergdorf Goodman's, Tiffany's, the Trump Tower and FAO Schwarz, with easy access to the horse-drawn carriage rides of Central Park.

3) Midtown West

Midtown-West spans from West 57th Street south to West 42ndth Street and from 8th Avenue to the west side of Fifth Avenue. Midtown-West includes Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, and the Broadway Theater district.

I used to travel to NYC from Aus extremley regularly.

Newark always sucked for me - not so much getting to or from it but there always seemed to be massive delays getting off the ground. I think the worst was sitting on the tarmac for about 2 hours which is the last thing I wanted to do with 24 hours of flying time in front of me.

Definatley go with the car service - its only $30-$40 over a cab and much more enjoyable.

As for hotels I only ever stayed at Millenium Hilton down in the financial district and its no longer open so I cant help you there. You used to be able to get great deals there over the weekend as they were a business hotel mainly, and it was only a $5 cab ride up to where all the action is.

Use JFK, it's only 15 minutes from Laguardia but it's a better landing. Beleive me!!

Plus if you can stay at the Plaza in midtown! Right near everything, plus it's a nice area. The Plaza is in the theater district.

We don't live in NYC, but we go there pretty often. I would fly into JFK. Also, I highly highly, highly, highly recommend the Mariott Marquis. It is truly awesome--right in the middle of everything. The view as you go up the elevators is just plain wild (not to mention the view from your room depending on what floor you're staying on). Second to the Marquis, we also like the Renaissance. It's much smaller, but still very nice. The Paramount is pretty cool too. It's very modern but no where near as nice (IMO) as the Marquis or Renassaince. I'm very, very into Broadway, so all of those hotels are in (or near) Times Square and near all of the big theaters.

ok.
Another question.
How long should I stay?

How many days (truthfully) are the minimium days I should stay.

I was thinking the 24-30th

Is that too many days? (6 nights hotel)
Could I do the same in 5 nights?
Say the 25th-30th

Id be ariving early morning and leaving late day either way, so each day will be full days there.

How many nights?
5-6?

more, less?

I was thinking 5 OR 6 nights.
Not sure which one is best. 5 or 6

I agree with the other posters, get a car service to pick you up. They're infinitely better than taking a taxi.

As for hotels, the Park Plaza is nice if you can get a view of the park. Otherwise go for the Pierre.

Well didn't Nina hook us up some kind of hotel in Times Square... if that's not already sold out I'll probably do that to help out Nina.

So what's this non-webmaster party going to be like?

All of Nina's horny subscribers...

I can only imagine it would be like a Star Trek convention -- only with more Ferengi...

Hey there my sexy Boneprone!!!

Honey, remember I told you I lived in Manhattan for 6 months with my previous job...This is the hotel I stayed/lived at while there, its right on 52, in the middle of the financial district (very nice area!). I am not sure how much you are wanting to spend, but this is a incredible hotel! The downstairs bar is great! You can see Rockefeller Plaza from your window, and Central Park is walking distance! If you dont want to spend the money, at least find something in this area!!!

The W in Union Square.

Hip, young, and caters to all your needs.

Pricey, but worth every cent.

I'm not an expert on NYC, but from when I went, I gotta recommend a few things.

- Stay in Manhattan. It's fantastic, no car needed, cab and train anywhere you want to go to.
- Check out a broadway show, it's worth at least saying you saw something.
- For the best italian food you can find, go to Tony's DiNapoli on 1606 2nd Avenue. Fan-fuckin-tastic family style restaurant.
- The ESPN zone bar in Time Square
- Toys R Us in Time Square (trust me, it's worth checking out as a tourist)

I can't recommend any hotels cause I went and stayed at a friend's place, and we drove there (4-5 hours by car from here) so I have no clue on airlines.

See if oyu can find the Jerkoff that stole my wallet! Kidding!

Have a great time man, NYC is a great city. And PLEASE tell me you're not doing the Twin Towers deal.
