The more I think about it....why should I be guilted into tipping someone because "they don't make shit"

If they don't make shit they can go find another job....when all the delivery drivers quit, the owner will have to pay more to get them to come to work...then if he has to charge more for pizza that's the way it is.

Just because the owner pays minimum wage and pockets the delivery charge shouldn't make it my responsibility to supplement the driver's income.

My wife says "no I need my change, you get the $2 per delivery charge already " and he says "oh, we don't get that" and she says "if it doesn't go to you then what's it for?" he says "oh it goes to cover the cost of the ingredients"

WTF?

There are lots of services that in the past I was more than happy to tip for, but now they're charging pizza delivery fees, and the airlines are charging $2 per bag to use the skycaps, why should I have to kick in more $$ over and above those charges...if I went to pick up my own pizza or checked my own bags I wouldn't be charged those fees, why should I pay those fees and then more on top of that?
I am guessing the charge is to help cover the cost of having a driver.

Ok but I'm just saying, if the restaurant added a 15% waitress charge to your check, and that charge was to "help cover the cost of having a waitress", would you want to tip the waitress in addition to that?

I always tip well... cause i feel pretty bad when a 30-40 year old is delivering my pizza... so an extra 5 bucks or so doesn't really matter, and i'm sure they appreciate it

What are your thoughts?
that $2 usually goes to offset the cost of huge liability premiums that pizza places have to cary to offer delivery. Domino's old "30 minutes or it's free" was the cause of so many accidents and eventually lawsuits, that places that do want to offer it now have to carry liability.

Besides, if you don't have at least a few bucks to tip the pizza guy, you shouldn't be here posting about it, you should be out there making more money.

No one would do that; they just add it into the cost of doing business. besides, waitresses don't have to drive their own personal car to your table to bring your food, or wade through 3 foot snow drifts in the winter to plop a pizza on the doorstep of someone that doesn't want to go outside in that gabage themselves.

haha what a stupid GFY tard - Lenny ain't po' and some of the richest people in the world are the tightest with a buck.

the concept of tipping is totally fucked - these people are employed by somebody, they should be paid what their job is worth by their fucking employer - if a customer is really pleased with how they were treated they can tip the employee whatever they want - whether it's 5% or 50%.

why don't you tip the nurse at the doctor's office? why not tip your auto mechanic? why not tip the cable repairman? they are providing a service no?

because people believe those people are being paid a fair wage for the job they do. well let Domino's pay their drivers a fair wage, let all restaurants pay their waiters, busboys and dishwashers a fair wage - charge whatever price you want for the fucking pizza to cover the cost, just don't make me responsible for directly paying your employees. I shouldn't have to pay anything extra to insure prompt and good service.

wtf? a pizza in Norway is $40-45? why? that's insane. there's nothing expensive in your average pizza. a large pizza is around 10-15 bucks from a franchise pizza shop.

I didn't say he was poor, and my comment wasn't nearly as inflammatory as you are making it sound. It was a generalization.
$5 isn't going to change my day at all, so to have someone provide me with a task I don't want to do myself, is worth the $5.
Having money to spend, and not being able to part with acouple of dollars makes as much sense as a eunich with a harem.

Tipping in general is an odd concept, but in my experience, tipping is incentive for beeter service. The shittiest service I've ever had was in places where gratutity/VAT was added in.

Yes I tip people well because they DO give you better treatment if you are a regular somewhere, if they DONT give you better treatment for tipping big go somewhere else.

Also its an unspoken rule the tip says keep quiet about the weed smell coming out when I open the door lol

Well its pretty fucking obvious they cannot afford to give high pay for a high turnover job. The good servers get good tips and stay there, the bad workers move on. You dont want some fuck that doesnt give a fuck about your service bringing food to your table do you? You think they give a fuck if your drink is empty or your steak was covered in dog cum?

Again this isn't my problem, this is the cost of doing business. When delivery was free I always tipped, now that they're charging for it I'm thinking that I won't.

Am I supposed to tip the guy who changes my oil because the cost of health care premiums for those employees went up?
Maybe I should tip my accountant's secretary for mailing me my quarterly reports, after all good secretaries are hard to find and he doesn't pay her nearly enough

I'd also like to point out that if dominoes didn't deliver, they'd probably go bankrupt within one quarter. The pizza is the lowest quality crap and the only reason I ever get it is because they're willing to bring it to my doorstep.

If I had to go pick it up myself there is no way I would choose their product.

i'm not cheap - that's not why i'm against tipping - restaurant managers/owners know very well who their best employees are - reward them and they'll stick around.

i know in the hospitality industry the tipping thing will never go away - it's probably been that way for 500 years and it works. it's just that this shit has crept into too many other areas - when i was a kid the only people i ever saw tipped were waiters and baggage handlers. i don't remember my mother sending me to the barber with anything more than the 12 bucks it cost or to my stupid music lesson with extra money for a tip.

hmm - i think haircuts were only 7 bucks.

I used to deliver pizza when I was 17-18 so I know how much tips matter to the delivery guy. I always tip at least $5 and sometimes more.

I used to tip delivery guys, but nowadays pretty much ALL restaurants down here in Brazil are charging high for the delivery. So I stopped tipping them.

We've always been charged per delivery over here, except by Dominos. Well, their pizzas are like $20 for a large in the UK so they don't need to charge delivery. I always tip the driver tho, its not his fault and like others say, I don't want anything happening to my pizza next time.

I tip the pizza guy.

But at a restaurant it's a different ball game. If someone thinks they are entitled to a tip just because they happen to work at a restaurant then they can fuck right off. I'm not looking for anything special even, just someone who is nice and doesn't make it seem like they are doing me a favour bringing me my food and taking my order. Quality check that shit and bring the bill in a reasonable time and you're getting a tip for sure. However, I say screw these people who are bad servers. Apparently their managers can't see that they suck, so it is up to the customer to drive them out of the industry. Hell, when I don't tip for horrible service, I'm doing someone a favour (assuming that the jackass takes the hint and realizes they are shit and hate their job and quit).

Anyways, enough ranting...tip the pizza guy, he needs to put food on the table or pay for school.

we pay like $.75 delivery charge for them to drive about 3.5 blocks. What usually include a few more dollars on top of that as well.

Yes, and I tip them well. I've had friends in the past that worked pizza delivery and I know that they keep track of what houses / people tip them and which don't. That helps them determine their priority to get their pizza to you, or if they are going to sit outside your house for a few minutes and make you wait.

Tip your fucking deliver guy

My policy on tipping for home delivery of food is this....

-- if there is no delivery fee I tip the delivery guy $2-$5 depending on the amount of the delivery (and quality of service). Obviously on a $50 order you should throw him at least five bucks.

-- However, if there is already a delivery charge on the bill, I simply round up to the nearest dollar and that's it. Why? Because I don't pay twice for the same thing.

I will either pay a delivery fee or pay a tip, but not both.

Same thing in restaurants. If there is a 15% gratuity tacked onto the bill, then that's the tip. I'm a generous tipper when I get good service, even better when that good service is coupled with great food. But I'll be damned if I'm going to pay twice for the same thing.

And I don't care if "the poor driver doesn't see any of that delivery fee".... tough shit. No one is holding a gun to his head to work there, he can do the same job at another place that doesn't rip him off, and I'll tip him there. Fee or tip, it's one or the other, not both.

i always tip at least 15%, but usually we just go pick the pizza up instead of having it delivered.

I tip $2.00 regardless of what I order. They charge a $1.50 delivery fee anyways ($1.00 goes to the store and $0.50 goes to the driver.) So they get a tip regardless...

Around here the delivery fee is part of the cost of the pizza - if you pick it up yourself you get a discount. I still tip the drivers though cos I rarely get stuff home delivered anyway.
