Wow .. Our affiliates really came out for us. I know that we may not be the biggest but we put a lot of effort into supporting the thousands of affiliates we have. This poll goes to show that its not always about how big you are but how available you are to people when they need you and in return they come out to support you at times like this.

Thanks to everyone that voted and congrats to all the other companies for being in the top 20 most Popular Sponsors list. its picked by the people and that means a lot to me.

Mike

Too small a sample and too many icqs "psst vote for me bro, here's the link..." to give it much weight but you gave it your best shot and at least got a good list together in the one place.

Maybe you should rename it "Sponsors with the biggest affiliate icq lists" or "Sponsors who hustled the most to get votes"

It is most Popular sponsor so that would apply "he with the most friends" It would be expected for the smaller guys to hustle a bit more to get the votes. the fact is that the big ( really big ) guys don't care about it and in some cases don't pay as much attention to the affiliates. this is why a mid size company like mine can scoop up the vote. we talk to our affiliates and in return they support us.

this entire thing was meant to bring some exposer to sponsors that wanted it the most and to Referral matrix. I think it did both and i have the new affiliate sign-ups to back that up.

again thanks to everyone that voted.

Thanks Mike, at least you understand things.

For what ever reason some people got votes or didn't get votes, I started with 320 sponsors, EVERYONE with an account on GFY had a chance to vote, each sponsor was on a level playing field. In the end Satan Cash had the most votes, so they won.

People may disagree with the results, but the results are the results, no votes were fixed behind the scenes. Each sponsor had equal chance to win.

And it was called " Most Popular Sponsor" for a reason. The "best" sponsor is something that applies to each person individually, and you have to try them out to see which works the best for you. I would however recommend giving the sponsors who made it to the final 20 a try. If they are new to you, great all the more reason for you to give someone new a try.

If you do post back and let us know how it worked out for you.

.

wrong. for that to be true you would have had to have done something like a single 320 choice poll. there would have been better ways to do it, but that would have been the simplist
-
the way you did it here your results are statistically inaccurate to put it lightly. none of your placements are mathematically sound
-
you broke the competition up into flights pitting programs against others in their alphabetical bracket and programs that were up against more popular programs in their own bracket were at a disadvantage over others in less popular brackets
-
logically, the next step here would be to have a run-off between your entries up there, but that would only result in you being sure of the #1 spot even the #2 spot would have a significant enough margin of error to render the reuslts mathematically useless
-
there would have been lots of ways to have a ranking system in place in the flight system but they all involve using many more tiers than the single one you ran here

i appreciate you at least trying to tell me how to do it better, most people just bitch.

1. You must know that GFY only allows 20 options max per a poll. It wasn't by design that I picked 20 for each groupd but working with what was available to me.
2. How else do you suppose I group sponsors together? Pick names out of a hat? Some people would bitch and say it was rigged, the ONLY fair way is to use the alphabet.
3. I provided wild card spots so if a sponsor was in the same group as a very popular one they still had chances to advance to the final round. Maybe you missed this part when i explained it ?
4. Each of the 20 groups were the " run offs". This was the final poll. I wasn't looking just for number 1, i was looking for the top 20, ranked in order.

So how else could I have done this better, I am open to ideas as I will be doing it again.

To develop a system with minimal margin of error is big permutational math.
-
No way to make it better without making it longer
-
criticism on your current system: the system you have is only good for choosing a #1 spot and it only works if you have a runoff with the #1 choices from each bracket (which you did not). again, none of the ranks up top are backed mathematically. mathmatically speaking you put a bunch of different shaped blocks in a bucket closed it shook it around for awhile opened it up and randomly picked blocks from the top of the bucket declaring them #1 though #20 as you chose each
-
You use of wildcards is pointless. the use of wildcards is only applicable to systems involving multiple tiers and your system only has one tier. You use them as "honorable mention" places which is even more pointless is a system where even the #2 spot (had you followed through to the end of your chosen system) has no basis in mathematical proof
-
maybe the most effecient kind of system for what you're trying to do (using simple math) would be to have multiple tiers where anyone who has better than x% more than the the median ('median' not 'mean/average') number of votes in their flight moves on to the next round with no limitation on how many entries can proceed to the next tier from any one flight. the lower your x the more accurate the results, but the longer the entire process. the value of x could be changed between tiers but not between flights. x could also have a negative value
-
Continue that process until you have your final 20 (could take several tiers) and host one last poll. then you have the ability to declare a 1st through 20th place based on the results of that single last poll. simple, but so long as you don't have too many instances where many besides the top [100% -(50%+x%) ] are "contenders" in their flight until the last round (and if they are, you can always go back and edit the entire tier's results with a new x value) it should be decidedly more accurate than what you have here
-
a longer process but a tons more accurate
-
and there could be a more elegant way to do it. this is only one of an infinite number of ways but it should give you an idea of what is needed to be done

i think at this point you need to draw pictures and stuff. If you went over my head I think you went over the head of 90% of the people here.

I haven't pulled out the trig calculator in a long time, i wanted to keep it somewhat simple. It's a poll.

I can appreciate the time and effort you put into writing that, but

Sorry man that is way too complicated, next time maybe i will just do the poll on my site and do all 320 at 1 time.

I follow (i think) on what you saying, how in the hell am I suppose to explain to everyone voting how it works.
