My mom accidently took 2 boxcutters on a flight from LAX without being stopped
So we're heading to a funeral from LAX to Honolulu and as we're taxing in Honolulu she pulls out her purse and starts laughing and shows me a couple of boxcutters she accidently brought on with her. And, she tells me this isn't the first time that she accidently took some boxcutters on a flight without being stopped. I told her it's not funny and she needs to check her purse before she ends up in some airport holding facility like that AZ women. She's a micriobiology lab directory, an extremely intelligent women, but a total airhead. Supposedly she carries the boxcutters in her purse because she uses them at work. But the incident made me think, all the bullshit at the airport is definitely not effective...kind of scary.

I rember flying first class on virgin atlantic from uk to usa shortly after 9 11 with my wife. We had a small 'argument' with security regarding a small (and i I mean tiny) little pair of nail clipper that she had in her purse. They were like, thats a weapon, you could use those to take over the plane... Well cos they were only like 99c, we let them keep them...
We got on the plane, sat down in first class, and a stewardess appears handing us two glasses of champange, in real crystal stemmed goblets... I remember thinking that if i 'Had' been criminally inclined, I could have easilly smashed the glass, and stabbed the stewardess with the jaged base stem... Of course, I would never do that... But if I DID want to... It would have been 1000000000X easier than using a one inch nail clipper ! |

Not too long after 9/11 I made it completely through the charlotte airport, security checkpoints and all without having to show my ID at all.

Airport security is the US is designed to make people "feel" safe, not actually be safe...
I know a guy that many of you guys know that carries a pistol on board all the time, just wraps it in a lead sheet so the gun online won't show on the X-ray... ![]()

What, airport security isn't actually secure? Has anyone ever actually spoken with someone who works for airport security? Most of them barely scrapped past high school, if at all. They act like they are well trained and have a firm grasp on the responsibilities and job duties they need to perform, but when it comes to do it, it's just that...an act.
For the most part, if the guy checking you baggage had a brain he would take it out and play with it.

Why does he need to carry the piston on board with him? That's putting everyone's life in danger...not cool at all.

I have noticed that the larger airports I have flown from (LAX, LAS, MSP, etc.) are pretty lax on their security while some of the smaller or regional airports are almost Nazi like at their checkpoints.

Big deal, the reality is that the passengers should beat the shit out of the high-jackers weather they have box cutters or not.

He carries it for when he gets off the plane, not so much for protection on it...

Who would be in danger if he has a gun on the plane? As long as he doesn't highjack the plane with it, who's really in danger?

Why would you have box cutters in the first place?

what if it went off or he thought he had to use it and shot and put a hole in the side of the airplane? I bet it would do quite a bit of damage with that kind of pressure on the cabin walls.

maybe because they know nobody can fucking hijack a plane with box cutters. ever thought about that? i know if some fucking clown was trying to hold me and a hundred others hostage with some box cutters he and his friends better think again. i mean come on you can't hold people hostage with box cutters it just wouldn't happen.
some people are just too gullible. think about it logically then respond. |

Isn't that exactly how they hijacked the planes on 9/11?

BTW, a shot through the window or fuselage won't make the aircraft magically break up. It could cause problems if it pierces electrical or hydraulic lines, but otherwise the aircraft will remain intact and flying just fine. |

Strange...this happened to me too. I flew to NY for my grandmothers funeral and wore a jacket I have not worn in a long time. I was one of the random people who was pulled aside and they went through my things and my jacket.
When I arrived at Kennedy Airport and was waiting for a bus, I reached into the inside pocket and pulled out a bright orange box cutter. How they did not find it I have no idea. I was in shock for a minute as this would have been horrible because I would have probably missed my grandmothers funeral if they found it on me prior to boarding. |

I was flying from San Diego to Dallas a few years back. The airline I was supposed to fly was having issues, so they bought me a ticket on another. I had to go through the extra screening because I had a one way cash ticket purchased on the day of travel at the airport. Anyway, they went through all of my bags, patted me down, the works. I got back to Dallas, and when I landed there was a lighter still in my bag.

..flew from france to london to the US with a 6" knife in my backpack, no concerns. I'd been picnicking etc w/ my girlfriend, and completely forgot about it. No worries, and this was just 1 week after the UK tube attack...
