It sounds like a lot, but China has a population of one billion and three hundred million people.

Sure.. this is the problem - they are trying to find a commerical base to support that level, so prob going to be a while yet with low cost goods to develop that level of economy.

I sell shit from Shenzhen. Guangdong and 'm getting worried about trade imbalances and future protectionism in Europe and the US.

It's bad for business.

I'll let him know that there are so many "dirt poor subsistence farmers who can barely feed themselves."

No, have no investment in China - already got better investments locally thanks.

If your former 'partner' was in China then he would know that well there may be millions of Chinese who can afford the luxury of a vacation the super majority of the Chinese can barely feed themselves much less take a vacation.

BTW I am not denigrating or demeaning the Chinese. I am just pointing out the obvious to all the people who think China(insert India if you want) is going to supplant the U.S.A. anytime soon as the economic superpower. They have decades to go and many hurdles to overcome before that happens and it is by no means a certainty that it will.

Ah! Used to deal via HK.

Sure.. the EU and US can do whatever they like, but - at the end of the day - they want cheap product?? Can't see the EU or the US actually manufacturing the stuff.

Who said anything about a "former partner"? He is a partner/dir and was not specifically dealing with "luxury vacations". Hardly worth saying, but will try - he is probably one of around 12 people who have more expertise in dealing with sustainable development globally and has been engaged by various govts over years to consult in this area, has developed degree courses on the topic, administered millions of EU govt funds to other countries etc etc and therefore, it's fair to assume he has more than a clue about the Chinese population than any of us???

But - I'll pass on your info

What's this friends name? I'd like to read some of his writings or hear him speak on sustainable development.
