Why are journalists always mentioning hits and not unique visitors?

Have you ever noticed anytime a site is mentioned on the news they say how many hits a site gets per day instead of unique visitors? Do you think they know the difference? Do you think they would care if they did?

I doubt most journalists know the difference, and I'm quite sure the majority of the media's audience haven't a clue.

Here's what I would say to journalists: Saying how many hits a website gets is like reporting how many hairs there are in LA. Some people gotta alotta hair, some ain't got any. So the number of hairs in LA don't tell you a goddamn thing about the actual population of LA.

Something like that for hits v. unique visitors: One person can go to a website, click links for an hour or so and generate tens of thousand of hits because damn near everything that loads on a Web page generates a hit.

What makes a website substantial is how many unique visitors it gets per day. Journalists: When you report on a site, you should ask the owner to send you a screen capture of his daily stats from his CPanel. There's also this obscure teeny tiny little website called www.alexa.com that will give you some relative stats on how much traffic a website gets compared to other websites.

Why am I bothering to say this shit? I dunno. I guess I get tired of mainstream journalists distorting everything about the adult industry, while at the same time capitalizing on it every chance they get.

It's called "glorification."

As was stated, most people don't know the difference between hits and uniques, so the journalists pick the bigger of the two numbers to make it that much more dramatic to the average naive person.

cuz it's a bigger # and therefore makes the story more interesting. The news is pure entertainment now, not much real news left these days.

They always go for the dramatic.

For example, when they talk about boats being sunk, etc. They talk about the tonnage of ships sank in WWII versus the number of boats.

Why?

Higher or more dramatic terms make it sound more of a story I suppose.

Hits can be in the 100's of thousands, while uniques are 3k a day. Which sounds more impressive for the same site to those outside of the industry.

They might be stupid, but I'd buttfuck Ann Coulter in a heartbeat, just so I could reach around and tug on that big Adam's apple when she's cumming.
