I've had a HP for awhile now and really like it... I had a toshiba before this one and had problems with the power cord where it attaches to the motherboard came unsolder ed bad design I think. That being said I have a Toshiba and a HP sitting on my desk right now.

I went from HP to Dell, and love the dell more than HP,

The HP I had some problems with. Hardware wise. too soon to tell with the Dell, but...

I just purchased the Dell 17 inch Precision M6300 last week. I ordered it with XP Pro. Its not a bad machine from what I see so far.

My old inspiron 5160 turned out to be a major pain though. It ran hot. The heatsink was located right next to the power supply and fried it. Do some research to see if they fixed that issue before buying the Inspiron line.

I had a Dell. Nothing but problems. I heard Toshiba was the best, so I bought a Toshiba Satelite with a 17" screen and all the bells and whistles. More problems, especially with Wind-blows XP. Then I got a Mac Book and couldn't be happier (except for the damn hard drive crash I had after I dropped it). One piece of advice. Get the smallest screen and the minimum memory, etc. Get an external monitor and external hard drives. It's a much better deal and you've got a whole lot more memory for the money.

The Shemp, thanks for the advice, I am not switching to vista anytime soon.

Maybe it is time to look at a MacBook? I have not hear a single user who are not happy with them. Just not sure I am ready to got the MAC route.........

About DELL is looks like either people love it or hate it, nothing in between, strange.

I have been reading so many reviews the last couple of days so now I actually know less what I want then I did 2 days ago.

*hugs and kisses*

I really appreciate all help. Thanks guys. It looks like all MacBook users are really happy with their machines.................

So, now I not only have to decide what pc laptop to buy, I also have to consider switching to MAC :-)))))

Guess I will have to buy 2 machines.

I'm really happy with my Dell Inspiron 9400 - running XP - too big for the plane, but otherwise...quite satisfactory
