is this common for registers to do this?
I have never had one thing bad to say about directnic, been using them for 7+ years, have over 300 domains with them, etc... I just had a domain expire I don't think it was "expired" more than a day or two.
No big deal, it wasn't getting a lot of traffic, I forgot to check (seems like i have them expiring every couple days). I know you have several days grace period. Well I caught it was expired and renewed it. I didn't bother to go to the site. So its been a week or so and I go to the site and there is a parked page on my domain that links to " meanwhile.com " and has directnic across the top. I log in and check and sure enough i did renew it and I still own it. So i check dns servers and the dns servers have been changed, so apparently everyone is still seeing the parked page and not my site even after I renewed it. So is this common with registers, if you are a couple days late and the domain " expires " that they will change your dns server info and then after you renew the url they wont change it back ? Did I make any money if sales were made on the park page ? It's my fault I didn't catch it sooner but I didn't know they would do something like this. My initial reaction is that this didn't make me to happy but if it is a common practice and they all do it, then i guess it's not a big deal.

yes will76 I have known it happen, sometimes if a domain expires even for 1 day it auto defaults to a parked page and even when renewed you have to redo it manually.

IMHO even if it's "normal" they should make it clear that you need to change the name servers back.

If they all do it, they all do it. Now I know simply paying for it isn't enough I have to check my domain server info to see if it has changed.

directNIC has a 30 day grace period to renew the domain at regular price. They send renewal notices at 60, 30, 15, 7, and 1 day before a domain expires during the 60 day period prior to expiration. Just make sure they have an active email addy to use and their emails are not scrubbed out as SPAM or junk mail. |
