Verotel users...

They have been great for us for 5 years, so I was wondering why for the past month my conversions have gone very poorly. But I found out why and if you are a Verotel user I thought you may be intersted. They implemented a new system on the join page where two currency's are showing
USD 29.99
(AUD 35.38) The US and the currency in your country, firstly I don't like this at all it just confuses the surfer, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought they were going to be charged twice. BUT!!! the main reason sales are crap is that the conversion is completly wrong, go here http://www.xe.com/ shows me that USD 29.99 is AUD 32.82

So if you use Verotel check out your join page and the currency conversion, then email Verotel and ask them to go back to the way it was...

Ps I love Verotel, just this new implementation doesn't work...

Check your join page again but select a foriegn country that doesn't have USD as it's normal currency, then check here http://www.xe.com/ Cause your in the US it just comes up with the USD price on it's own...

This is what I get on your site

Amount 29.95 USD (35.33 AUD)
Type of credit card VISAMastercardEurocardJCB
Credit card number

Now 29.95 USD is 32.75 AUD the Aussie dollor hasn't been that price above for a long time. Bottom line is this can only hinder sales not help...

Have you thought about using multiple currency billing? Just set it to $AUD34.99 (or whatever headroom you want to leave for conversion losses) and see what happens. I haven't used it myself but I presume the multiple currency setup would NOT show the equivalent USD amount since the surfer is being billed in their local currency.

I've used them for years. Never had issue. Our conversions are not down. They are actually UP, or where they should be considering winter months. All is good.

Yeah, same issue with my sites. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll be in touch with Verotel when their offices open later tonight.

VEROTEL are great .. have no problems at all with them . they are my primary and wouldn't change it for anything .. I under stand what your saying .. but personally I have like 15-20 sites with them and it actually makes things clearer for the client if you ask for my opinion .. shows that they will be getting billed in USD but that it converts to *$$$* in their regional currency ....actually looks slick ..

But the currency conversions they are using are waaaaaay out of date.

I agree, Jake, it's a good idea to show the fee in the customer's local currency. I think the original poster's issue was with the accuracy of the conversion rate, and the fact that at present it appears that the local fee is higher than what is actually being charged.

I just played around with the payment setup in the Control Panel. For US and Canadian customers, you can get the join fee to show in the local currency without showing any exchange rate or converted total. Just add new subscriptions in the control panel in Canadian dollars (assuming your existing ones are in USD), and on the join page when the customer indicates they are from Canada, these new ones are the only ones that appear.

Still with Verotel, over the last 36 hours I had three separate customers buy multiple memberships minutes apart. They clicked the "join now" button too many times, obviously, but when I contacted them they said the final payment confirmation screen froze and they received no confirmation by email. Strange, since I received an emailed confirmation myself.

This happens occasionally with any processor, I know, but 3 times in 36 hours? Seems strange to me. I reported it to Verotel and their developers are looking in to it.

Anyone else see this problem lately?

Canada is one of the 8 countries/currencies that you can do this with, unfortunately the remaining 186 countries will have this incorrect conversion.

I don't that's correct. You have to pay an extra $15/week to do multi-currency billing in Euro, British Pound, Danish Kroner, Norwegian Kronar, Swedish Kronar, and Swiss Francs...what Verotel calls "Group 2 Currencies".

Group 1 currencies are US and Canadian dollars which you can do by default.

Another problem with showing the equivalent value of the fee in local currency is that it is subject to...

(a) card exchange rates
(b) cross border fees
(c) international currency conversion fees

In other words, what the customer is actually charged will never be the same as the signup form says.

In addition, the equivalent value will change at each rebill since the forex market moves constantly.

I think it's risky to show an equivalent value unless it is made clear that it's a rough equivalent only.

Gotcha, silly me I see what you're saying, but I have not had any decline in sales so far. Pretty steady for us. I use Verotel on 5 sites.

Would be nice if they would make a "rough estimate" disclaimer somewhere for the surfer. Not sure how many check the accuracy of exchange rate at that purchase moment though ... being that the blood is rushing to their "other" head

Have you managed to tweak this to improve conversions back to last years levels?

I'm under the impression the exchange amounts have been on the join pages for a very long time and that it is not recent.

I did email them and mention that I hoped we could soon have a one step join page like CCBill and they said that this was under development. Hopefully they can make some changes there fast enough so we can use new join pages before summer.
