MPG in US is disgusting.

There are about 7 cars of any type that get over 30 mpg
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bympg.htm

1981 there were over 15 that got over 40mpg.

That shit just pisses me off

When you're paying 1/2 the price of most Euro counterparts you can afford to drive a car with half the mpg I guess. I love my diesel 55mpg :D

the change to the MPG calculation model in the US this year has a little bit to do with this. Compare 2007 to 2008 and you'll see what I mean.

I just can't get over that I have to buy a hybrid to get 45mpg when in 1981 I had a dodge colt that got 50mpg without being a hybrid.

I want to buy a new rig, but refuse to buy a car that gets less than 40mpg. So i will wait or might buy a smart car to do my errands. It's just fucking stupid.

The Honda Civic diesel gets 75MPG, but not available in North America.

I had a Honda CRX at one point that got 55mpg. That car would be 13 or so years old today.

The car companies will tell you two things... that Americans won't buy a small car anymore, and that modern safety standards require cars to be heavier.

I am so fucking glad that all the US car companies are going down the toilet. They fucking deserve it.

I feel bad for the workers that have no decision in the cars they are building, but to all the ceo's and execs, fuck you.

I can say that the first is pretty much true; only commuters who really need to drive a lot get the super tiny vechiles.

The second, I saw a super sub-compact wrap itself around a telephone pole, after flipping less than a month ago on the icy roads. The driver not only survived, but pulled himself out of the car.

Might want to read the chart again. I'm seeing 23 2008 models that get over 40mpg.
