Anyone else have tinitis ?

I have had it from time to time after being exposed to air horns, loud concerts, etc.

Last time I had it I freaked out a bit because I read that there really is not specific cure. I mean, who wants to spend 24 hours a day listening to some high pitch sound?

I just followed the suggestions from some health website which said to cut out coffee, drugs, and everything else that could worsen it. It also said to buy a white noise machine to help ou forget about the sounds while you are in a quiet room or when you are trying to fall asleep.

I bought a Brookstone white noise machine that has various sounds like rain, ocean waves, and rainforest birds. I just left it on ocean waves and left it on whenever I was at home or in the office.

Within one month my brain just kind of tuned out the noise. I felt lucky!

Two months ago I was working on a music video and the douche no-talent director insisted on cranking up the music super loud even though a few people complained. Normally I would have just told the director to fuck off and walk off set if he was being a douche but the talent was a fairly big movie star so I relented because I wanted the credit (more than the pay).

Well, now I have tinitis again, and trying the same system. I will let you know if it works.

I hope this warms everyone to avoid extremely loud noises.

And Michael P. This is one more reason you should not post videos with low sound which makes people turn up their speakers/headsets. When the 110 decible scream jumps out at you it is not so funny. Yeah, I got pwned I admit it.

Sorry I called you that name and told you to fuck off. I was in a bit of pain at the time. No worries.

Well instead of letting it make me angry I just try to turn the energy around and do some cool things for people. Seems to help.

Captan Kurk has had tinitis much of his life after an explosion went off on a Star Trek set. I wonder if that had anything to do with his drinking issues.

Doctors are predicting it to be a massive problem for people in the next decade as all the concerts and clubbing, raves catches up to them.

I don't see how people who work in clubs every night can take it. I can only be in a club for about a half hour before I need to step outside. Any longer I have to put in ear plugs and that does not help with the schmoozing very much

Apparently tinitis is one of the #1 problems troops are facing. Theirs must be much much worse though because those explosions and rapid gunfire are a hell of a lot louder than club music.

No, that was my way of saying "sorry" to him and to also explain why I was a big angry. He seems like a good guy so he meant no harm. He was just joking around.

Have you tried anything to "tune it out"? The white noise machine seemed to help me in the past.

I am also going to try hypnosis and perhaps acupunture.

Sucks for you man, I have had it for the last 25 years............ Never seems to get old. But on the bright side the voices in my head have to shout rather loud to be heard over the ringing.

NosMo

Do you ever feel the tinitis make you more motivated? I keep on the white noise machine when sleeping and working. When outside I don't really notice it because the wind/birds/traffic etc masks the sound.

When I am in the kitchen the big refreigerator masks the sound. So I always try to keep moving. If I allow myself to sit in a quiet area without keeping my mind on doing something then the noise begins to bother me.

I've had Tinnitus for a few years now, it's a high pitched 24/7 ringing that I can pretty much tune out during the day when stuff is going on, but once it's all quiet, I really notice it.

I've been trying to avoid loud noises at all costs, but despite that, it actually got a little worse in the last couple of months.

What really scares me is that I'm almost 34 now and I have it like this, I just fear that as I get older, it's gonna start to drown out all other sounds and it'll be all I can hear. I think at that point, I'll end up killing myself, ha ha.

There is a foundation for Tinnitus, I even joined it and make donations from time to time - http://ata.org

my left ear has tinitus. i had it since i was 20. i just turned 35 so 15 years of ringing. I was in a band from 17-21 and DJ'd from 23 to 29. I had it slightly from playing in the band, but the headphones from DJ'ing sealed my fate.
I only notice it when it's quiet, which sucks, because I fogot what quiet is.

I'm surprised that concerts, nightclubs, etc haven't been sued for unsafe sound levels.

I'm always amazed all the government regulations regarding excess sound in the environment and the workplace, and yet there are seemingly no regulations at all for entertainment venues; seems anything goes, which is a recipe for mass deafness.

I don't have it, but in a former life I worked with and treated a lot of people with it.

Since yours is due to nerve damage from the loud noises, it may possibly go away again if the nerves aren't too permanently damaged. If it gets to a point where it really bothers you, or if you need to be in a quiet area for some reason, you can get little masking devices that are like a hearing aide. They generate a low level white noise.

You can also try taking vitamin B3, but since yours is likely nerve damage, it may not help much. If you don't notice an improvement in a couple of months, then don't waste your money.

Update:

I have been eating only raw organic foods and that seems to get me through the days by allowing me to put the tinitis in the background so I do not notice so much.

Also, last night this girl who was hanging at my house gave me a massage in the hottub. It is more of presure points than a massage though.

Last night was the first night in a long time that I did not even notice the tinitis. I did have a fountain on but usually I can hear the tinitis way over fountain.

I still feel good today, and she is on her way back here today for some more body work/healing.

If this does not make the tinitis go away then I am know someone who is can put me under hypnosis.

Hope this helps someone as I know how bad it can get when all you can hear is a ringing 24/7.

I've been eating the Piracetam for the last few months to help my brains, and I find that it does help with memory and such, but I still have the ringing in my ears from the years of being in bands.

Thanks for your imput, at least we can help warn other people from spending lots of time around concerts and clubs without putting earplugs in.

I also read that tinitis is the #1 health problem with people returning from wars.

I never spent much time in clubs nor did I play in a band. It just was there one day and never went away.. It gets really bad sometimes where I can't think of anything else but the hi pitch ring in my ear. Also it seem to be only coming from one side. Fuck, it really sucks.

Try eating only raw organic foods. Try it man! It really helps give me the strength to tune out the constant ringing.
