I more want to know as far as the processor speed/power goes, compaired to whats available nowadays. I was quoted $375 monthy for the server, thats without bandwidth.

You can upgrade your system to a Dell 2950 - Dual Core Dual Proc

yup, not the best support though. Im trying to figure out if it's an ok deal, or if I should move hosting companies. It would actually be a second server sharing my bandwidth package.

If the support sucks, any price is too much.

The hardware looks decent though. I could give you about the same with 1000 gb B/W and 50 IP's spread over 10 Class C's for not much more.

$375/month WITHOUT bandwidth???

How much are you going to be paying for the bandwidth??

On a side note: Gerard, I need to talk to you, can I send you an e-mail?

the bandwidth would be shared with my other server/bandwidth package, I would be adding a second server to share my current 50MBPS

To be completely honest with you, if anybody rates the price and specs you have presented, they would kind of be talking out of their ass. That really isn't much information to go off of. Every customer is different, it really depends on what your specific needs are.

Why do you need a Lamborghini to drive to the 7-11 every day?

So it really depends on what you need and what you are doing. What kind of sites are you running? How much bandwidth do you need? How much support do you need? Are you looking for growth? Etc., etc., etc.

I know this isn't the answer that you are looking for, but I think it's something that you need to keep in mind before taking any of the responses in this thread very seriously. I would suggest talking to several different hosting companies about your needs and seeing how they can take care of you. Talk to your friends, see what they say and recommend.

Good luck.

what other info should I post about the server specs?

I just want to know if it's a good server worth $375 monthy, or if it's an outdated 5 year old machine.

You should consider BUYING a server if you are renting for almost $400 a month. They pay for themselves pretty quickly.

Sure, it's a decent server. But doesn't hold a candle to this bad boy:
x4150 (can't post URLs but check out Sun Microsystems site or just search for x4150.

I'd like to talk to you more about your current solution. Hit me up.

Those server specs are pretty nice, and your choice of hosts is also very good as techiemedia is 1 of the best. Personally i would use SAS drives with that server and you will have a killer machine for sure. The price seems to high though, talk to jim at techie and i'm sure he will do better for you.

I think that Techie Media can give you a better price on that server, not to mention excellent support.

Those specs are a bit incomplete. 2.0 GHz, if that is what it is referring to is a little on the slow end, but it looks like you should have 4 cores if I understand that so it should be able to handle a decent amount of load. What are the RPM's on the hard drives? How much bandwidth are they giving you as well? As it stands right now I don't think anyone can make much of a recommendation without the full picture.

That is very true as I recently moved to Techiemedia and have 2 very high end servers (dual xeons) and the price is much better than 375.00 but more important is the support at techie is far superior to any other host i have been with, these old school guys are great.

Depending on the cost of bandwidth that price is a slightly higher than average, not a rip off by any means though if it is managed. The hardware is fairly current as well.

Hit me up (contact info in sig) if you have any other questions, I'm not too good at keeping up with threads ;)
