Oh...I should have clarified that I'll be writing the content for this news section...I don't need a feed, just a mechanism for easily posting new news items to the members home page and archiving older items.

I might be stating the obvious, but Wordpress would be a suitable publishing platform. You could also hire a php/mysql guy to write up a quick script for you.
