Thanks San Francisco protesters for showing the world we can be assholes!

How the fuck did this become such a god dam political hot bed. This is supposed to be the time when the countries come together and compete in world games. Not a place for you to vent your anger over what a country is doing politically. Watching the TV I'm sure that most of the dumb asses there couldn't even point out Tibet on a map let alone know about what is going on there. I was so hoping that there would be only a small protest and maybe a demonstration that way other countries could see that we are better then this, but guess that is a dream. I hope the SF protesters are happy cause all they did was ruin it for the people who get to carry the torch, a special memory now stolen away!

As if you're blind. The Olympics are as symbolically-political as it gets. The values they represent are in stark contrast with the reality in their host country, and this is the very best opportunity to draw attention to what's going on, with the best chances of generating international pressure.

International pressure always works. Look at the fantastic job it's done in Darfur.

Idiot a lot of people in SF are from China and came out today to show why they came to the US. They have a right to protest if they want. Sure there were people out in the city today that had nothing better to do then stir up trouble. I personally stayed out of it but to other people this a chance for them to let the world know how they feel. Sure the Olympics are suppose to be about competition and sport but it's also turned into politics over the years as well. Thank London and Paris as well. It's people right to protest regardless if you or I or anyone else agree or disagree with it. Welcome to America!

This will solve nothing. Yeah China is going to rethink the whole Tibet issue because of this...NOT! We could have made an even bigger impression on the world if the US was the only city to not have a major demonstration during the torch relay. They already think of us in a low light so by allowing the torch to run through our city would have been an even bigger statement. Watch the video of the protest and look at all the people there with a camera trying to record a big scene just so they can be #1 a YouTube.com They were not there to help anything. Better yet lets go to them after this and tell them to pitch in a few hundred dollars to help the poor people. Shit you would clear the room.

I thought it was lame the way the "run" ended up bypassing most of the protesters and the people who came to support the torch-bearers. The probably should've cancelled the whole thing.

I'm already tired of hearing about the Olympics, I wish they'd just go away... permanently.

San Francisco has a well-earned reputation for being one of the most liberal cities in the U.S.

The Olympic Torch run took place here today with few incidents - however, it was done so with much secrecy (the route was changed dramtically, to avoid protestors), and with extremely tight security (more than for visits by the President).

These actions prompted this response from the Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin:

Quote:
"(Mayor) Gavin Newsom runs San Francisco the way the premier of China runs his country - secrecy, lies, misinformation, lack of transparency and manipulating the populace," Peskin said.

"He misled supporters and opponents of the run. People brought their families and their children, and (mayoral officials) hatched a cynical plan to please the Bush State Department and the Chinese government because of the incredible influence of money.

"He did it so China can report they had a great torch run," Peskin said. "It's the worst kind of government - government by deceit and misinformation."
Yesterday, Richard Gere and the Rev. Desmond Tutu gave impassioned speeches at a protest rally in San Francisco on behalf of the Free Tibet movement. The Beijing Olympics have focused attention on this issue more than at any time in the past, and I think the Tibetan people and their supporters are correct in using the international spotlight to draw attention to their issue and to put pressure on the Chinese government through peaceful demonstrations.

In the spirit of the games being held in China, perhaps the government should have just ran over the protesters that stood their ground with tanks...

and then arrested the ones that ran...

and then executed the arrested along with any sympathizers for the protesters that are in our government or are leaders in the community.

And then we could kick out all foreign press from our country, and force our own press to ignore the incident and pretend it never happened.

And then we could also make sure that there's no mention of the incident in any of our school textbooks and strike out at those who publish information regarding it on the internet.

That'd make the next batch of protesters think twice about protesting!

yeah... that'd be a lot more in line with the general theme of "China."

We have the right to protest in the US. And that's a wonderful thing. So get a bunch of people to sign a document, and then get a bunch of people to march up to the embassy and present it to someone without having to resort to throwing stuff.

Don't fucking embarress us.

Oh, and while these fucking idiots bitch about China..... Perhaps they should give consideration to the US record on human rights the fact that we still put people on death row.
