Actually I heard it many places before here, though we can expect some weird shit here as well over water. Specially in regards to Mexico, and our mid west.

Depends- Canada has the largest coast line in the world, yet we are talking about fresh water here and with your icecaps melting all the time and sea water rising, don't think your off the hook that soon, maybe in the next 100 years for you. (that was a complete guess by the way of 100 years)

Actually, I heard it from another dozen sources before here first...

But, yeah... from what I've read, I agree totally (if not in 10 years, then 50)...

Fresh water will be the resource that wars are fought over before too long unless we kick purification and desalinification programs into high gear.

I think they'll find a way to do it on the cheap. If there is money involved in it, someone will figure out something.

It is sad though that we've stopped innovating though. We can fly satellites around Pluto but can't figure out how to remove salt from water on the cheap. Or how to power something without burning a fuckload of oil.

We should be so far ahead of where we currently are.

But we have, many times over now. I think the proper questions is, why do we still rely on fossil fuels when there ARE MANY better alternatives? I think you'll find you answer lining the bank accounts of the upper 1% of the population...

You do realize that ocean water doesn't qualify as "fresh water," right?

In fact, rising ocean levels will only further contaminate what fresh water we have on the surface - much like the Black Sea was contaminated with saline right around the same time a guy named Utnapishtim was first rumored to have built some big boat in preparation for some great flood - compounding the problem.

Haha, yeah its the most expensive way to produce water, uses the most energy and there is very little capacity to even do it but yeah shouldn't be a problem supplying the entire world's water needs. Especially if the population only increases to about 9.2 billion by 2050 which is the figure I last read.

"CETO is a patented wave energy technology that converts the energy of the ocean waves into zero-emission electricity and zero-emission freshwater."

"in Australia, where the CETO technology is being developed, all the major southern states (NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia & Western Australia) water needs could be delivered by CETO wave farms occupying a seafloor area of just 150 hectares or 70 football ovals."

I wouldn't laugh. They are already producing zero-emission freshwater with this technology and the first commercial farms are only a year or two away.

Aren't they fighting more other the holy land rather than the water though. I mean you could say Britain was fighting Germany over bananas, simply because they could not be exported in because the german ships were in the way.

I think thats the way of life, everytime there has been a scare that something is going to go wrong or run out, someone comes up with something. Look at the shortages of coal and how easily that was replaced by.
There will definitley be money in it thats for sure.

They have been fighting over water for decades now, that's not something new. Read about what land they are all fighting for and you notice the presence of water or lakes in it, no one is fighting for dry land

Identifying potential flashpoints for conflict does not require a doctorate in hydrology. In the Middle East, the world's most severely water-stressed region, more than 90 percent of usable water crosses international borders. Forget oil: The most precious resource in the region flows in the River Jordan, or resides in the aquifers that link Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

In 10 years war in the middle east will be over Mohamed. In 50 years the war will be over Mohamed. They can either sell a barrel of oil for 100 of water (and oil will become scarce much quicker than water will) or they can use all the energy in the oil to run desalination. But even when we new longer need oil or water for that matter Jerusalem will still drive men wild and soak the surrounding desert in blood. In the history of man there has never been a piece of real property that more blood has been spilled over, and it won't change anytime soon.
