MySQL 5.1 to be 20% faster

I totally forgot about Sun acquiring MySQL. Anybody else remember that?

The article claims MySQL 5.1 is supposedly 20% faster. It also claims better support for transactions and more enterprisy features. It also says some things will be faster some slower. Makes me wonder faster for who? Most of the stuff us webmasters use for DB work is not all that complicated or advanced as far as database features. Usually the more complicated a program gets the slower it gets.

For most adult related work a MySQL 5+ server properly managed with good written code/queries will be just fine. IMHO

I cache all of my most common queries into flat files, use MySQL for the easy administration aspects while having files as close to static as possible

I'm still waiting for OODBMS's to pick up. RDBMS are so dated and take so much more time to develop with.

Mysql is fine for the most part. It's the developers who don't know about caching that causes problems ...

** looks at WordPress -- How many queries is it up to now for front page on default install?

it doesnt say slower than it is now, it says 20% is average performance increase though some aspects may have less than 20%, some may have more.
Not at all saying slower than currently.

Yeah no shit. I just noticed I had one auto feed wordpress blog that was so fucked up it was brining a dual quad core with 8 gigs of ram to its knees.

That's one bit. It's free, it's simple, it does simple things, and lets idiots do dumb things.

You should know about WP. Last I checked it was 8. That's when I dismissed it. Shit, not even some homebrew hack by the uninitiated (usually) takes that much.
