1st Gaming PC and need advice

http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeal...d=99845&ru=290

I'm thinking of buying a new desktop that can comfortably run games like WoW, Oblivion, CS:S, and CoD4. Oh and Starcraft 2, of course. My friend recommend this deal for Gateway FX7026, how do you guys think? for that price, worth to buy? any other good suggestions?

I'm pretty nitpicky when spending money, so bear with me.

Not bad for the price... low on upgradeability though, no extra slots to go dual-video for newer games

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the graphics card listed which is one of the most important components.

I have a Velocity Micro computer, which has been upgraded, as my business and gaming machine.

Check out this link to their $1500 gaming machine:
http://velocitymicro.com/wizard.php?iid=19

I would probably upgrade the graphics card to an 8800GT for an additional $65.
You also get:

1) USA based telephone support that not brain dead.
2) Beefy 500 Watt Power Supply
3) Multiple Fans (In & Out) for case cooling
4) All aluminum metal case
5) Lot and lots of customizable options.
6) Custom built and tested by a real person
7) SLI ready and lots of upgrade possibilities

At least for the moment, there is not much benefit to the quad for gaming with current games. That will change in the future.

Good luck.

Try and get a CRT monitor (not flat-screen) they are better for PC games if you are serious about them.

I prefer ordering from places that let me choose every single part, right down to the CPU fan.

ncix.com has a great selection.

The new LCD's are just as good. Even the cheap ones have a response time of less than 5 ms now. Samsung makes gaming models with a 2ms response time.

I could never go back to a CRT, so friggin' huge and so much wasted space. Plus it's almost impossible to buy them now.

I have two dell 19 inch LCD's that are a few years old, and I've never had any issues at all with games. Just make sure it has a fast responce time and you are good to go.

I'm no pro on all the PC stuff, but it seems the video card is fine -- for now. Everything else seems good for the price, but again, for now.

For a few dollars more, maybe:

CybertronPC Armor TPCARMV2QX685BK
# Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 3.00 GHz Quad Core Processor
# EVGA 132-CK-NF78_A1 Motherboard
# 8192 MB (8GB) DDR II 800MHz PC6400 Memory
# Dual 500GB 7,200 RPM SATA2 16MB Cache Hard Drives in a Raid 0 (Striped) Array
# Triple XFX nVidia 8800GTX 768MB Video Graphics Cards in SLI Configuration
# 8 Channel High Definition onboard sound
# Thermaltake Armor Jr. Tower with 850Watt Power Supply
# Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Edition

This is not the top of the line, pretty darn close...
The GTX is one of the top cards you can buy now, and you get 3 of them. So when those sneaky game companies come out with some graphically uber-intense game a year or two from now, you'll be ready.

Yeh theres nothing wrong with using LCD's for gaming, but CRT's are better the screen refreshes at a higher rate (unless you buy expensive LCD's for doing this).

No way I got rid of my 21" Trinitron a couple years ago for a 20" Samsung LCD and I'll NEVER go back. Most of the games I play are FPS and there has been absolutely no problems with ghosting that plagued cheap LCDs with slow response times.

That's actually a good price for that machine, and it has the new 45nm intel.

I'd go with www.alienware.com if you can afford them there a bit expensive but never heard any bad reviews

my 19 inch Samsung 940BF LCD works perfect even for gaming. I've never had any issues. Bought this monitor like 3 years ago.
