How many content shooters work in mainstream as well?

Yesterday I shot porn. Today I am working on a cooking show. Sometimes get on some good music videos as a DOP, sometimes decent budget indie movies as a sound guy or BTS footage.

You?

I have done some stuff in mainstream, although I like adult better, every now and then it is a nice change to do a mainstream gig. My buddy Randy from Kool Katz Media goes between adult and mainstream all the time.

His mainstream sample page http://www.koolkatzmedia.com/index.php?useraction=demos

His adult sample page http://www.koolkatzmedia.com/index.php?useraction=adult

I used take on advertising and editorial photographic work, but haven't done so in a while. I'm going to Napa Valley tomorrow to shoot landscapes and hope to sell some of the pictures, but I'm shooting on spec.

What wide lens do you use most for your landscapes? I am close to pulling the trigger on the 14-24 2.8 Nikon.

It depends on the camera. I have a 4x5 and like to use a 135mm lens, but I'm not taking that tomorrow. I'm bringing my Hasselblad X-Pan with a 45mm lens, and possibly my Hassy 6x6. I'm gonna shoot some HDR photos with my DSLR... my favorite lens with that is a 24-85mm, but I have a 17-35mm as well.

If I'm shooting film, I like to cross-process too... here's a couple (fairly low rez) samples, shot on two different chrome films:

I always use DOP instead of DP around porn people so they do not get too confused.

BTW, plenty of DPs call themselves DOPs.

I do work in both mainstream and adult all the time, as my friend Sebestian Sands said earlier in this thread. They both have their benefits and problems, and you get your fair share of drama in both. I shoot and post everything from broadcast TV shows and commercials to corporate and marketing videos. Plus a lot of adult web work and DVD releases. At the end of the day (or the production) I just try and make the best looking and creative video possible, and I really love what I do

on set we never said ask 'the DOP' it's always ask the DP, get the DP, tell the DP etc...in over 20 years never heard anyone refer to the DP as a DOP except this instance. I was even in the guild for several years as a DP. there was assistants, camera operators, photographers and DP's HOWEVER you can be a 'DOPe' if you'd like to be

Ok next time I hear my friend who is a DP who works on blockbusters refer to himself as a DOP I will let him know that Brian says he is wrong.
