![]() Had a quick question about tagging for SEO. I know you should use an alt="" tag for an image and a title="" tag for a text link, but what if you have an image that is linked? Do you use both an alt="" tag and a title="" tag or is that just too many tags. If you should only use one then which one is preferred?
Thanks,

If it's a linked image, I used to only use alt tags, but began using title tags as well because a rather popular browser does not do the text hover for alt tags.

i have never been a huge stickler for alt and title tags personally, they never did enough to warrant me going out of my way
but if I did run into your position, I would use a alt tag for the image |

Yeah I was thinking of just using the alt tag. If I used both and they both had the same keywords then I could see a problem.

That's because that rather popular browser is doing things the right way. the content of an alt tag is only supposed to be visible when the browser is unable to display the image/picture (or is configured to not show images/pictures).

That's the great thing about standards. Nobody follows them, and you get used to that after, oh, 10 years of popular misuse. By then, it's standardly wrong, but a standard.

I write in XHTML1 and it's standard to use alt on ALL images (if you don't it faults) and title on whatever you please. Personally I use title in links and rarely in img.

For a text link, that is descriptive, like: "Hot asian girls with big boobs". You don't need to use the title tag, the anchor text provides all the needed info about the linked page.
If you need to use a text link that says "click here" you could then use the title tag to describe what the linked page is about. An alt tag is used to describe what an image is about. If you link the image, the image and alt tag, should be related to the link. Using the title tag here helps build relation with the alt-image and tells them what the linked page is about.
