Golfers: Step Inside

Just curious what some of you are using for clubs? I picked up a set of Nike Ignites - Steel, to replace the junk I was using. Tonight grabbed a couple drivers and a putter.

For a long time I was swinging wrong with a bad grip (think Happy Gilmore).

The next year I bought new clubs, all graphite. Bad move. My swing is wrong for graphite irons, and my shots became even more erratic. Last year I switched to a cheap set of steel. I had MUCH better control, and contact.

Through part of last year, kept experimenting back and forth, but came to find out steel is what's best for my style and swing. I'd been eyeing the Ignites since end of last season. Needed a new driver(s) and putter. Just had a cheap-o I was trying out past two years. One with a bigger head in the back. Really worked great for me on the greens.

Friends started calling me, 'master of the short game'. I wasn't that good, but I was considerably better, and did better than they did. So after working out the best clubs for me and my style...

Made the investment in the new drivers, and clubs.

Yeah I'm not a fan of graphite at all, I love the feel of steel.

I'm a ping man myself, got a set of blades in 01 and they have treated me well: they are LONG and forgiving. I LOVE their woods. I sleep with my ping driver. It treats me better than most women. The wedges, even the new ones are a little odd for me, so I use Vokeys, 50, 54, and 58. 6 handicap.

I use a Nike Sumo2 "Lucky 13" square driver, I also own a Ping G5 driver but I dont carry that one right now as that is a more standard 10.5 degree loft and I struggle to hit it consistent, the extra 2.5 degrees makes a world of difference. I have a Taylor Made r7 3 wood which I rarely use.

My hybrids are Ping G5 in 16, 19, 22 and 25 degree lofts. Then a set of old Ping ISI irons, 6-SW. My putter is a vintage Tiger Shark "Great White 2100" designed by Pat Simmons which I used to try out in the club shop when I was a kid but could never afford. Since it was discontinued many years ago I was delighted to see one come up on Ebay last year and made sure I won it and got it shipped in

My last club is a loft wedge called a black widow which is almost like a spoon and just lobs the ball and kills it stone dead. But its a very easy club to mishit.
