Need help with wireless router
So i finally got a laptop and a wireless router. i thought settin it up would be easy, and it was but unfortunately not successful. I can't get the connection to work on my laptop. I enabled all the security settings, using the mac address, disabling SSID, etc but even when i enter the wireless name and security key into my laptop, it still picks up nothing. i can see my neighbors connections and while i know since i disabled ssid i won't see mine, i should still be able to access it when entering manually. Any idea why this would be? I simply can't see where i went wrong. the router is a linksys WRT54G.

can you connect to the router through a web browser? I assume you can since you were able to change the settings...
does your router have an IP address? you should try disabling the security and allowing it to broadcast so you can see if there is still a problem. |

From your post, I didn't understood what are you trying to do? You want to connect to wireless network available from ISP or to connect notebook with your main computer?

Turn the SSID on, disable MAC filtering. Make a basic WEP 64 bit encryption connection until you have it working, THEN add the security features. You probably did something wrong.

Once i enabled ssid i was able to connect. Not really sure why i couldn't with it disabled as even the linksys website says to disable for better security.

if your wireless modem in the laptop isnt a linksys the password phrase doese not work when entering it, you have to enter in one of the keys manually. Go into the router admin with one of your hardwired pc and go to the security section where you set the password, there you will find (i think it gives you 4 or 5)
been a while since i did this but i am sure thats what it is as i had the same problem the first laptop i got with a built in wifi. before that i used a linksys pcmi wireless card so it was never an issue. |

Try disabling first the WLAN and after a while enable it back and it will try reconnecting again.
