Here in San Diego i shop for my restaurants and the cost of wholesale food items has skyrocketed in the last 6 months. For example 5 gal Canola oil was $22.00, 6 months ago its now $37.00. Strawberrys $6.00 a tray last May ( thats like 12 retail size baskets ) this May $19.00 same size tray. Potatoes 50lb box Russets was $9.00 6 months ago today $19.95. Sping Mix (salad) was $4.50 a 8 lb box. Today the same box is $9.50.
Crop like these are being farmed less and the cost of transporting is going up weekly. One of my cafe buys huge boxes of ACAI ( superfruit ) the distributors are adding fuel surcharges that amount to some 7% extra each week !!!!! ![]() ![]()

Most of the things I buy have went up around 20-25%. I buy a few things that went from $1 to $1.50. The size has gone down on some things. Ice cream was on the news the other day about a size decrease lol

I know it is hard to change mind frames, but the more you worry about things
the worse you will feel and the worse it will become for you. Sure everything has gone up, just learn to live within your means... |

To be honest I don't really pay attention to prices at the grocery store. I just buy what I feel like buying. It makes no difference to me whether bread is $2 or $3 or $4. If I feel like eating something I will buy it. I don't eat bread anymore anyways because I cut back on carbs. I only eat lean protein and veggies and as little carbs as possible unless sometimes when I get a bad craving.
I care about it in the broader sense of in terms of it affecting the economy and that affecting my sales, but I don't care if I personally have to pay a bit more at the store. I don't care. I could care less if bread costs $2.10 or $2.95. I have better things to do. |

I shop at Trader Joe's mostly and it's pretty cheap. Mostly for dinner I eat fresh atlantic salmon and then some veggies or spinach or a huge salad from either rader Joe's or Jack In The Box... Breakfast is just eggs and spinach. It doesn't taste good but that's not the point, the point is that I want my body to be as lean as possible. It's not about taste. Eat to live, not LIVE TO EAT.
I don't really buy "groceries" like cereal or frozen food, that stuff is just not good for you. I only want to eat foods that make me live longer and make my skin glow from within; mainly fish and veggies. Now that I hit 30 I decided to only eat foods that will make me age better. |

I am sure the cost of some of the food (bread) I buy has gone up, but I haven't really noticed that much here.
I seem to spend around the same amount. I shop at t he real canadian super store, fairly cheap prices. Probably the cost of some has gone up and some has gone down, so it balances out. I do not drive, or don't eat out, so not costs there. |

People forget that the big three India, Russia, China represents around half of the world population wise and their economies are booming. Those people can now to improve their diet. Couple that with fuel prices and other short term disasters like in china/burma etc and you have a recipe for high food prices. Its definitely on an uptrend unfortunately but of course, we in the west are affected far less than poor people in asia for example, who are barely surviving.

Time to plant those victory gardens again it seems. I know more people than ever this year who have gardens. Some getting into home canning and storage etc. Not a bad idea.

I thought about canning but I simply don't have the storage room. My grandmother lives in a really rural town and she has always had her basement full of things from her garden that she has canned.

I pay approx $2.50 for bread. A bag of apples is $5+. McDonald's for the family costs $62 (including a burger for the dogs to share haha).
I grocery shop once per week and spend anywhere from $350-$450/week. That includes cleaning supplies, but does not include things like alcohol, pop etc. that we buy elsewhere. We eat steak once per week, but the rest of the week we eat the old fashioned standards that are not too expense such as chili, lasagna, pasta, tacos etc. I don't know how lower income people get by. |

crackers are one dollar more. From $1.19 to $2.09 in less then six months.
Milk is now $4.00 at CVS, which is $2.00 cheaper then a supermarket.

I bought a 6 pack of beer today for $2.79 at Albertsons A dozen eggs cost about $1.49 - $2.99 depending on size and if they are organic or not? Gas is $3.89 and this is the biggest price increase I've seen the last year. The state (wa) just raised the gas tax another 10 cents so this doesn't help! I did notice today my Comcast bill went up to over $200 per month so I'm calling them tomorrow to cancel everything except internet and basic cable. |

Everything is going up. I tend to do my shopping every two weeks and we notice prices going up at least once a month. Milk is going up a lot I think. Energy supplies to my house just went up by about 12% again which is very annoying. Haven't really noticed prices going up in restaurants tho, we eat out a few times per month and prices are generally the same. I think the UK is the worst place top stay. Our government take money from us for EVERYTHING. We pay duty on our cars, we pay road tax, we pay duty, tax and god knows what else on Fuel and we pay fortunes for repairs to cars.
I honestly hate this country so much right now. |

i dont know about other prices, but food prices, you must be living in cloud cooko land if you are complaining, for years we have exploited these african countries and got perfect deals and now we are so used to them and now other external factors are raising up the prices.
Be happy with how we have raped africa for the past 20 years. I mean seriously i can buy a huge bar of asda smart price choclate for 20p of which 0.4p will go to the producers. Some choclates charge that just for the packaging.

I'm a bit of a foodie, so I know I buy expensive food to begin with, but the cost of my basic groceries has gone up around 30% on average where I live in Hollywood. A lot of the sort of luxury fruits have pretty much doubled in price. High quality and organic meats are up a lot. Seen less of a change in things like bread and eggs, which are up but not crazy up.

Hmmm I live by myself and food is pretty cheap for me even with the rising costs. I don't understand what people eat/buy that costs $350 a week? That must be to feed a huge family or something. I only eat lean protein such as shrimp and salmon and healthy foods like vegetables/spinach etc and it's all very cheap.
I am a rather small person so it doesn't take much to fill me up. If I ate $300 worth of crap from the grocery store a week I would become so huge I could probably be rolled down the street like a beach ball since I wouldn't be able to walk anymore or my stomach would probably explode and I would die. |

I live in OC Orange County. I only buy fresh produce and fresh fish to eat because I refuse to eat frozen meat or any frozen foods from now on and it's still cheap for me. All I buy is produce and fish/shrimp tho, I don't eat things like cookies, cereal anything frozen, juice, soda, milk. I only drink water and organic pasteurized OJ and sometimes iced tea. I usually only shop at Trader Joe's. I eat correct portions tho, I think a lot of people don't know what a portion is and will eat like 3 portions of fish/protein at one sitting.
Also, my stomach is small and I'm under 100 lbs so it's not like I am capable of eating a lot. My goal is to get a six pack and be as toned and firm as possible. I eat to live long and for looks (to make my body as toned as possible), I don't eat for enjoyment. I also try to cut out sugars because sugar converts into fat. A lot of celebs are so toned because they don't eat sugar. Sometimes I slip and do eat sugar (like last night) but I try not to have it in the house because it's like drugs. You can become addicted to it and get sugar highs. I don't eat this way because I'm cheap because I spend a lot of money on other things having to do with my appearance. I only eat this way because I want to optimize my body for looks. (Toned and fit) |

Money is no object to me when it comes to appearances. I would pay whatever it takes to be the best that I can be (anything, even surgery), the thing is that spending a lot of money on food doesn't make me the best I can be, it just makes me bigger (not a good thing). I want to be as slim as possible. I only like to spend on things which make me look better, not get fatter.
