question for dog people

hey i've just noticed this problem in my dog moomoo and i'm gonna take her to the vet tomorrow but i figured i'd ask about it here until then.
just within the past week i noticed that when i touch by her left shoulder on her back, the left side of her mouth pulls back and just tonight i noticed something twitches her in back by her back left leg also.
its very strange and scary.
any thoughts?
thanks so much

sometimes when you scratch a dog in just the right spot, they do that... I think they kind of like it. That is, if you are describing what I think you are.

ya for my dog it was right on the neck behind the ear, it would turn it's head all cockeyed, do a weird thing with its mouth, then start kicking her leg like she's trying to start a motorcycle...

my dog does that all the time.when you're petting her you're touching one of her nerves along her neck which make her lips react the way they are.

Dogs often do that when you touch them, especially in spots where they can't scratch it themselves. They want you to give them a good rough scritching, and they seem to pull their mouth back in anticipation of it.

Like others said, they definitely do it when you get scritchin them behind the ear right in that sweet spot on their neck. It's the same with other spots, the back is a definite fav petting target for them. They can't scratch there themselves.

It's probably a good part of why they roll around on the lawn and wiggle like crazy, they are trying to scratch there.

I wouldn't worry about this at all.

Does he have a lump on the spot where you re touching?
My dog was doing that 1 month ago, had no idea why, had a lump on the spot
Brought him to the vet, and he told me he had a tumor, i had it remove last Friday before it started spreading... he is well now with a 12 inches scare on his shoulder...
it s probably not a big deal but have him checked out as fast as you can...

My dog got a twitch in her back when you'd pet her during a time when she proved to be allergic to her food. It made her really itchy, and when you'd pet her, it made her twitch because it really itched.

When I scratch my dogs neck -- he pulls a strange face, goes into a trance, and sometimes falls over!

If I stop scratching my two females they will stick out their paw to my hand and pull it back to them so I'll scratch them some more. My males aren't into scratching for some reason except when I scratch their bellies, they BOTH start pawing at their noses. None of them are related but the females and males both act the same with scratching habits.

Silly dogs.

That's completely normal. I used to scratch my dogs all over until I found where the 'weird spots' were, and try to hit as many as possible at once... ever seen a sheltie with it's head arched at a sharp right angle with one leg up, tongue hanging out and hindquater's halfway flopped upon the ground? It's funny as hell.
