I like smart ftp.

Also I doubt cute ftp is using more then 1 core. Most programs dont know what to do when there are 2 even.

Are you downloading the entire fucking internet? FTP is hardly a CPU waster.

BTW, running cute on a quad, currently:
CPU%: 00 Mem Usage: 9,932 K

Check that your quad was setup correctly and there's nothing wrong with mem chips.

Do a directory listing on a massive directory and watch the CPU. That's what made me switch to FlashFXP years ago.

And that's a problem for the client? The root of the problem lies with the developer/webmaster who setup/uses the "massive directory". What kinda idiot just lets their directories go out of control? You're just asking for trouble with directories so massive that they lag connections trying to get data from them.
If you need to deal with these "massive directories" you better make sure that your own CPU can handle the data transfer when you're working with them!

That's not the point. FlashFXP can handle it just fine.

I was curious, so I fired up CuteFTP (not sure why I have it installed??), and even with multiple connections open and downloading and having a couple connections loading my largest directory listing (not that big though) I simply can not get it to use more then 9% of my dual core AMD.

I still like smart ftp better.

Yeah I used CuteFTP for years and finally gave it up after little problems with is continued to annoy me. I have since been using FileZilla with no complaints.

CuteFTP used to be THE program of choice for doing file transfers but it fell behind the times and never recovered. All the other FTP programs surpassed it.

FileZilla is my choice these days as well.

I stopped using cuteftp a little while ago after 7 years of using only cuteftp.

Someone pointed me to coreftp (coreftp.com) and the lite version is free, and much faster and better than cuteftp IMO.

I use Cute FTP. Of the various programs I tried years ago, I liked that best and never found a reason to look elsewhere.

Anyway, of the programs I use, I find Firefox to be the biggest resource eater (RAM) once you start opening multiple tabs. 300 Mb plus easily.

I agree that program blows. I was temporarily forced to use it recently and felt like someone cut off both my thumbs. So awkward and slow.

image hosting type situations this is unavoidable, you're an idiot if you seriously think that there isn't EVER a situation where massive directories are unavoidable.

The good news is some filesystems will LIMIT you to 30k directories (I've hit it before)

I use winscp for everything, FTP, SFTP and I like the integration with putty for when I want to jump in and do something real quick in shell.

Give him a break. He's only read about the kinds of directories you and I have worked on (or own).
