I don't understand fan signs

I don't get it. Requesting a fan sign that you intend to use on your site to help promote the product, I totally understand. Requesting a fan sign that says "I love Billy"... I just don't get it. Somebody please explain. What is Billy going to do with this fan sign? Beat off?

For those of you that offer fan signs... I think it's great and I appreciate the fan signs you have given me for my sites (I have a few more to put up)... but, here is an idea to help you out. Instead of offering a fan sign to every horny guy in existence... scour the vast porn empire for every site that would be interesting in promoting your site. Record the names and addresses of each site. Make a fan sign for each site. Then contact these sites and show them what you have built for them and see if they are interested in promoting you. I think this will be a much better way to spend your fan sign afternoon...

That's a horrible idea.

Revise and try again.

Exactly. And that makes perfect sense. It is a promotional tool, not an ego builder.

I kinda see where your going, but instead, continue to offer fan signs, but thatthey must refer to the site you'll be promoting them from.

Fansigns like "[Surfer] fucked me silly and I liked it!" do little to promote the site. As a surfer would I want to see some ego filled fansign? Probably not.... oh yeah it's good for a giggle, but sale? Hell no.

sly - you're making too much sense

we stopped doing fan signs years ago because the time investment vs what we saw in return didnt make sense. we do them, but only for the biggest of the big, that way it also makes them special. at a minimum 90% of them will never be seen, maybe more. for the most part, i would imagine its surfers showing their buddies and what not. also, its pretty easy to set up an auto one like melissafansigns.com.

but hey, if people volunteer to do them, people will volunteer to take them.

Hell yes.

Let's say I have an adult blog named BigBadBob, filled with jokes, porn and random fiction. A fansign featuring for example Jordan Capri, saying "click me for more porn" might get a sale. A fansign featuring Jordan Capri holding up a sign saying "I masturbate to Big Bad Bob's private pictures" would help Big Bad Bob's blog build brand awareness.

Basically, a sign like that says "look! I'm a semi-famous porn girl, and I visit blog X!", which leads visitors to believe that there must be an actual reason why the semi-famous porn girl visits blog x. That perceived reason can help keep them at the site.

It's simple marketing trick. Fan signs reach people that normally would have never seen the model. Do you think somebody like Steve LightSpeed would spend a day shooting fans signs if it was not good for his business?

Sometimes I get them for my band, and I've noticed I get "forgotten" about 50% of the time.

Tons of people see that shit when I do get signs.. 2 minutes of 2 people's time and at least a few thousand *real* people know about the model and her site.

And yes, I tell these unsuspecting fans that the girls are our good friends/fans. ;)

I think it amounts to how the webmaster uses the fan sign.
