HornyMatches and Pimpmansion - Are you guys REALLY trying to be AFF?

Just got this email. Surely this isn't actually one of your employees asking for a link exchange.

For those of you too lazy to read the entire email that I got, here's the important part.

Quote:
Last thing is we would like our link to look like this:

Adult Friend Finder [Title]
Adult Friend Finder [Description]
http://www.hornymatches.com [website address]
Here's the entire text of the email:

Message Link exchange request ****************

Hello,

We represent the adult dating sites SexDatePersonals.com and HornyMatches.com.

We took a look at your site recently and we are interested in a link exchange.

If your site was made by a design company, web designer or similar,

and you have a doubt regarding how to publish our link, they can lend you a hand.

On your home page a link to "Friend's Sites " section keeps a list of your contacts,
maybe you have a place there for our link

Our offer is actually quite interesting, a 3 way link as opposed to a reciprocal link.

You link to HornyMatches.com and we link to you on SexDatePersonals.com.

We offer the best type of link exchange actually exist and urge you to not pass this opportunity up.

Also, SexDatePersonals has a very nice directory that we have been building so you have a nice chance

to find a good category there for your site. If not, please just make your suggestion to us.

Last thing is we would like our link to look like this:

Adult Friend Finder [Title]
Adult Friend Finder [Description]
http://www.hornymatches.com [website address]

- or -

add this on your web page: Adult Friend Finder

Have a great day and we look forward to doing business with you in the very near future,

Alexander Brown

The IP of the sender was 190.10.4.61. I'm sure anyone who has had any correspondence with these guys can tell if it was really one of them that sent this email or not.

I have a hard time believing anyone could be so stupid but nothing surprises me anymore.

It sounds like they employed this guy to help with seo and get links, i dont see whats wrong with targetting the phrase "adult friend finder" its a very popular search term now whats wrong with it?

In fact if you google adult friend finder youll see hornymatches in the top 10 so looks like its working.

Haha I have received the same email numerous times, always wanting me to put "AdultFriendFinder.com" as the link title. Pretty shady indeed. I could expect something like that from an individual, but not from a company.

Adult Friend Finder is a registered trademark. Using that trademark to promote a site in direct competition with AFF is a big problem. I'd expect a C&D from AFF over this.

Hah you are crazy, you seriously think they will get sued over their anchor links? You can target WHICHEVER the fuck keyphrase you want in the search engines. Your not getting sued over how other sites link to you.

Great comment sounds like you have no argument, please show some examples of people losing lawsuits because of the anchor text other websites use to link to them thanks.

Thanks for the offer but I am not using my time to give you legal advice. I'll keep you in mind in case I have any openings for charity cases in the future.

Go lookup dilusion of trademarks. A competitor using a registered trademark for a similiar product or service has tons of precedence. This is so clear cut that it would be a waste of time to go to court over it.

Pimpmansion/hornymatches is the second biggest adult dating site out there. Its also the most underpromoted by affiliates here, although it does better than anything else.
The question to ask would be: is it legal to promote your site using search terms everyone is using? Well, I see many pay per click ads in google when you type in aff/sexsearch/fling/... are those legal? When I type in sexsearch I see a paid advertisment for adultfriendfinder. So is this a case of one blaming the other for something they are doing themselves? Hornymatches ranks very high for all major terms, they are first for 'adult dating' etc.

hornymatches.com reps are tricking a lot of people using online dating sites where men are looking for woman pretending to be some chick looking but end up signing up to their program for their phone number & more pics of themselves - so lame.

Yup type in adult friend finder or any big porn company and look at the sponsored listings, tons of companies directly bidding on their name. Surely that is worse than people linking to your site with another company as the anchor text.

Wiredguy, so if i own site a, and link to my other site b with "adult friend finder" as the anchor text, you are saying i could be sued?

Hey Guys, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I will contact the SEO team responsible for making this decision and put a stop to it ASAP. After internally discussing this matter we have concluded that regardless of the legality, we agree it's ethically irresponsible. Please accept our apologies and assurances that this will not occur again in the future.
