when i try to add an image (add media > add an image) i get HTTP error

Probably an image with the same file name already exists in the upload folder. Try renaming.

There's a solution here:

I had to use a Google cache link because the site is down, but when I had the same problem this solution worked for me.

this was a brand new install and my first post.
