:2cents Microsoft Calls Vista Haters Bluff

Microsoft has a secret new operating system they're showing to XP-using Vista haters, reports Cnet's Ina Fried. Codenamed "Mojave," over 90 percent of the focus groups in San Francisco loved it, with at least one moved to effuse, "Oh wow," while using it. When can you get hold of this wondrous new operating system? Right now. Mojave is actually just plain ol' Windows Vista.

Pwn3d!

Yeah most people are just a bunch of sheep hating on Vista without even trying it. I'm glad I didn't listen to other people and decided to try it out myself... I really like Vista.

Very idiotic article. How can you love or hate the system if you were not working on it at least a few week, not tried to run your applications etc.

"Microsoft has a secret new operating system they're showing to XP-using Vista haters"

There is another bunch of sheep that loved Vista even after trying it

I'm glad I didn't listen to other people and decided to try it out myself... Vista is a piece of shit. I really like XP.

I fought with vista for about a year. Even waited for SP1. At least 3 of my programs I use daily didn't work on vista. Moving large files over the network took forever, and if I wanted a pretty interface I'd use a mac. Best thing I did was get rid of visa and load XP on my laptop (set to classic windows look).

The poeple who say Vista sucks are the people who install any software that promises it speeds up your PC 10 times and click on any virus warning popup they see on their screen..

VISTA DOESNT SUCK ITS YOU WHO MAKES IT SUCK! SIMPLE..

Ok vista has one annoyance they excluded the dos prompt telnet client why o why?

You must not use virtualdubmod and AviSynth or move large DV or HDV files across your network. And talk about popups????? - UAC would ask me twice every time I wanted to move a jpg from one folder to another. Vista was not designed for power users at all. It might be good for grandmas who want to answer emails and see pictures of their grandkids, but I love my grandma more then that.

what kind of idiots did they have in this focus group?

i've used vista quite a bit, and i can't stand it. it's setup all wrong, made for idiots to use, and it is a fucking PIG on resources.

microsoft has an amazing way of "fixing" what's not broken. if they really wanted to release a new OS, there are many issues they could have addressed with XP, but instead just decided to plop out another steaming hot load. it's like windows ME all over again.

Oh yeah... I forgot about one of my biggest complaints about vista - how my hard drive would run all the time while vista "optimized it" for me. I wouldn't touch my computer for 1/2 hour + and I'd come back and my hard drive light would still be on full blast.

It is made for power users because you can disable those extra security popups etc...

Actually with a little tweaking it can be all like XP and better..

But unfortunatly people don't take the time to get to know the OS their using.. They install it see something they don't like and call out it SUCKS..

very sad.

I did disable UAC and the defrag, and I tried to use it for almost a year. I turned off Aero before I even ran it (I still don't have a clue what it even looks like). Believe me... I know how to tweak an OS.

It didn't run the programs I use daily and network traffic is SLOW - Nothing will make it like XP when those two things are why I hated it. If Vista works great for you then more power to you! Keep using it, but I have to ask:

Tell me exactly why you think a power user would have to TURN OFF defrag instead of RUNNING defrag? A power user knows when to defrag their HD. A grandma doesn't. Isn't that the complete opposite of what a power user would want?

Exactly! a power user knows when to defrag so he should turn the scheduled task off as he knows to run it once in a while.. an old granny wouldn't know this and she would never run it thus making her pc slower and slower. So its scheduled by default so granny doesn't run into problems later on..

Ok, never mind. We obviously have very different meanings for power user. Enjoy Vista!

Thank you

Hope you will do sometime later. All i'm trying to say is.. its really not that bad for a new OS. Remember the problems XP had when it first came out. Vista might not be perfect but its a whole lot better then when XP came first out. MS could have some credit for that atleast.

Vista has a different coding base with a higher level of integrated security. as well as features which allow it to streamline its use of the hardware. It's a complete overhaul of the way that Windows handled programs and data. In short, program compatibility was expected.

If you had run the Microsoft Upgrade Advisor when your system had XP, you would have known what programs were incompatible.

The MUA, HCL and the SCL were on the Vista website months before it was released. Despite that fact, people just expected things to work out of the box, which is impossible unless Microsoft became proprietary like Apple and tightened the reins around developers necks in the same way.

With freedom to install as you please comes the responsibility to do your research.

Solution here, which was included in a downloadable patch when Vista came out. (bviously included in SP1)

That issue did not affect mainstream users to a significant degree at all, btw.

Microsoft sucks. I don't like their software but it's a monopoly, why do you believe they ended up before an antitrust court and got fined hunreds of millions in the EU?

My laptop came with Vista, so I didn't have a choice of running the upgrade advisor. I waited until SP1 came out and used it for almost a month before formating my drive and installing XP. SP1 did NOT speed up the network to XP levels. It was faster then before SP1, but not even close to XP. I'm NOT a mainstream user. I'm sure for them Vista is just fine.

Microsoft will do fine as long as the NSA is their "security consultant". It's called a "roof" in Russian business.

Second:
Vista provides a basic for Software media player to use their built in DRM system.. So what happends is you insert the blueray disc the blueray disc says to the software player it wants DRM otherwise don't play.. the software player then asks the OS what kind of DRM it has available and Vista will respond on this mather I have this one.. If its all green light it will play.. If its not green light the blue ray disc doesn't play..

The same thing happends on XP or Ubuntu or whatever.. The difference is that Vista has a built in system which software players can use, so they don't have to build this themselves.. A big plus for developers

So as you can see the built in DRM of Vista is only an extra for Software player developers to use and has nothing negative to it as it is something that is also being used on XP or Ubuntu or whatever only there the software developers have to build the DRM system themselves.

DRM is a bad thing for the illegal torrent downloaders.. but for content providers its a good thing and its very good vista helps making DRM become even more standard by offering it built in their OS.

What a great operating system. Still to date Microsoft hasn't yet fixed the bug that makes it impossible to delete files in a folder, if that folder contains certain AVI files.

An operating system unable to delete files! Geeesh!

Typical for MS to just launch a PR-campaign instead of fixing their shit..

Does windows xp stopped to work ?It does not.So in that case there is no any need for upgrading to vista.Only reason for that could be winfps, but since they didnt installed it in vista...There is simply no sense for upgrade.

What a load of crap. I ran Vista for a few weeks before I could no longer take all of its very obvious and well documented flaws.

Hmm are talking about it running to index your files to make searches and your computer in general speed up? I edit and move HDV files around my network all day long with no issues. I edited video on XP pro and on Vista. WAY less issues using vista to edit. And the software you mentioned not working is freeware correct? I just don't get how people have so many issues. I built my main desktop and rendering boxes. All running Vista, and all have no problems. My laptop came with Vista already installed. No problems. I must have the super special editions. And yes I am a power user. My cpus run at 100% 30 to 40% of the day while video is rendering, or I am batching photos etc. I reboot maybe once every 2 weeks if that. Haven't had any crashes, no incompatibility issues nothing. *shrugs*

He's in Croatia so he probably does live in a hut, uses a horse and carriage and cures illness with leaches. Running water is pretty unlikely too.

Vista does suck balls though. He's right to stick to xp...just not for the right reasons.

Thank you. Exactly my expirience. I have no problem keeping Vista run smooth. And I really do heavy applications all day..

The only reason I can possibly think of why people are complaining is that they lag the knowledge on how to keep it running smooth. Cause really every problem you might encounter can be traced to a cause and can be fixed even better so in Vista as the task manager shows allot more info in Vista then it did in XP.

They give up to soon and throw it on the good ol Vista is crap I go back to XP and rather spend their energy on telling everybody how crap Vista is instead of really seeing where is the problem and find out its not Vista but something else that causes it...

I might have said "oh wow" when I used it for the first time, because it looks pretty and it's "oh wow" inducing... by the third week I wasn't so keen on it anymore.

Windows ME for the win!

Don't tell me how it works on hardware levels I know a lot more than you. I'm talking now about software implementation which reduces the quality of premium content to "protect it from illegal copying". You netter read first and reply after

Hardly.. I built a new PC several months ago and I installed Vista on it from the start. I had nothing but problems with it and switched to XP which has been very stable.

I was always wonder about it. Why a crowd is always ready to jump on anything "new" which has ZERO new features, but problems with software compatibility, higher resource consuming, slower speed, drm shit, "legal" built-in spyware etc. Is it some sort of masochistic fetish or what?

I was a huge microsoft fan, went to a win95 launch, saw Steve Ballmer speak at comdex in Atl and was a beta tester for win98se. My aunt got a dell laptop with vista on it and 2 gigs of ram. I didnt like it at all and I installed sp1 on it. They dont get their act together I will be going mac.
