The intruders, who were armed with a gun and other weapons, demanded all those present, including local people and children, to surrender their valuables. Five of the Dutch women were taken to another room where they were raped.

?They also tried to rape a number of local women but they were eventually left alone because they had babies with them,? the spokeswoman for Livingstone told ANP.

Staff at the organisation are ?extremely shocked? by the attacks and have immediately suspended the Kenyan project, she said.

The five Dutch women were treated at a hospital in Nairobi before being flown to Brussels on Saturday where they were met by family and Livingstone staff. They will be offered further medical care in the Netherlands.

A fair amount of people in general are worthless scum. That goes for every race, every country.

The problem with most of Africa is that for exceedingly poor countries, it's much harder to control the scum than it is for richer countries. Worse yet, lack of education, poverty and bad living conditions breed more scum.

There are plenty of people in Africa who aren't scum, though. You can't blame those for the actions of others.

I think it's sad period - but then again... WTF were they thinking "helping" a country where this is the norm. I think if they were properly educated as to the risks before going there, i'm sure the charity would have a lot more issues trying to recruit volunteers, so I think what happened is terrible, no disputing that fact, BUT you can't fucking tell me they told these girls that they wouldn't be completely safe.

That's like saying you'll be perfectly fine dropping in on IRAQ and helping them.
