I dont think he is better and I dont think Kobe is in the top 3 best players in the NBA. I would take Lebron or Chris Paul over both of them.

Paul Pierce is out of his element. I'm not a Kobe fan, but he's definitely the best in the NBA right now.

He's basically just saying that he thinks of himself as the best player on the court. I see nothing wrong with that. He wants to play with confidence rather than give an edge to an opposing player.

Paul Pierce needs to just shut his mouth - he's being overly confident if you ask me.

Are you kidding me?

Paul Pierce has been on a losing team his whole life. They needed to go out and get Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Posey, and even Sam Cassell for Paul to get his ring...

Payback is a bitch.. Wait til next year...

Kobe = biggest douche in the NBA, but definitely one of the best.

However, Pierce pwned him in the Finals and has a right to talk a little smack and gin up the rivalry a bit.

Being traded is just business. Pierce was unhappy for a very long time.

That's just business.

Pierce was a loser for all but one year of a decades time. They had to go out and get him a team. Kobe has been to the Finals with two different squads.

Can you find me any quotes from Kobe proclaiming himself the best player in the League? And if he did say it, could we all imagine the ramifications?

Celtics were a better team in the Finals, of that there is no doubt. However thinking Pierce is better than Kobe is just being a Celtics fan. And being a Celtics fan is kind of gross.

This topic would be worth a thread if it was someone other than Pierce claiming he was better. ie David Aldridge claims Pierce is better than Kobe. I would expect star players on teams to think they are the best player in the NBA.

This team argument is sad. Basketball is a team sport so there is always going to be other players. I can use this team argument to argue against Kobe just as easily as you use it to argue for him: Kobe had Odom, Gasol, Fisher, etc. and STILL lost despite being the league MVP. Lets not forget he also had the coach with 9 previous rings.

Kinda ridiculous isn't it?

But seriously no one is claiming that Pierce is better than Kobe except for Pierce. I'm saying that is to be expected. Lakers fans should get over it.

I'm a Warriors fan. We've watched a game on TV before during ad-tech SF, remember? Lakers vs someone. Fun times.

What if you gave him a coach with 9 rings, an offense he's comfortable in, Gasol, Odom, Fisher and you asked him to win in a year he was so on top of his game that he was named league MVP?

Tha would never happen. because crybaby Kobe would be uncomfortable playing with someone who can take his spotlight. he would ask for trade.. their trade. ..

all the Kobe fanboys just happen to live in Southern California - i'm shocked

Kobe's the most explosive offensively gifted player in the NBA - but the best? no - this year's Finals proved that. the best player in any sport would have raised his game in that situation win or lose.

not sure who is the best player now in the NBA, don't really think anybody right now can lay claim to that title - the one who should be soon is Dwight Howard.

Paul Pierce great player he is a hall of famer but best player in league no not even in the argument. Kobe best player in the league ... no but he is in the argument. So who is ??

take away championships because teams win championships and this is a individual question not a team question

which leaves one person Allen Iverson simply look at the numbers

highest active career points per game, 4 scoring titles, current active leader in steals.
only player in NBA history to end a season top 5 in scoring, assists, and steals

you can't take out championships/team success out of any argument for the best player in any sport - that's ridiculous.

well then we are all off based and Robert Horry is the best player in the NBA hell he is even better than Jordan was I mean Jordan only has 6 rings and Horry has 7 ........... or Championships are a team award and not basis for who is a better individual player

Kobe has 3 rings, 5 appearances.

Do you honestly think the Lakers squad was comparable to the Celtics?

With Bynum and Gasol both healthy and on the court, then it's an argument.

Cory, I understand your pain - the Super Bowl still hurts here.
But take the off-season off and get over it. No one even knows the context PP said it in - whether he was joking, whether he was serious, who he was even directing it at.
(And BTW, the only thing that the Finals and PP *did* prove is that while PP may not be the best in the league....neither is Kobe )

i remember BEFORE the series nobody was talking about the Celtics being favorites even with Bynum out - Gasol is a Euro pussy in the Dirk Nowitzki mold, he wasn't going to be a difference maker. The best player in basketball, whoever that is, would have played better than Kobe did against the Celtics.

as for players like Iverson - the record books are filled with good players on horrible and mediocre teams with over-inflated numbers because they were THE man on crappy teams.

Drapes is a very good player not great but not just a role player either. I mean he has won a Selke Trophy

that being said he is not 4 for 4 in Stanley Cup appearances he is 4 for 5 he was on the 1995 team that lost to the Devils

what like all those shitty Bulls teams Jordan was on in the beginning when he was breaking all those records????????

how many of those bulls teams didn't make the playoffs? I mean IVO took a team of scrubs to 10 straight playoff appearances hell he even took a team much worse than the one Kobe missed the playoffs with to and NBA finals.

Hell two years ago SLAM mag even said if you were to redo the 1996 draft (kobe/ivo draft) IVO was still the best player in that draft
