I use Vegas, but am going to be switching to Avid.

And before people here try to tell me it doesn't matter, it's all preference, I assure you, It's not.

At NAB earlier this year, they showed the prototype and it would be $3000k and this includes a fixed lens. The 4k Red One is the cam that allows interchangeable lenses and major modifications and add ons.

I have one of the first reservations for that cam. That is the benefit of being part of mainstream.

Do whatever makes sense for you, since you are the one that has to work with it every day. For example, if you are going to take an editing job with some mainstream companies like the Discovery Channel or MTV for the whopping $10-$15/hr that they pay editors, or you are part of a group of editors working on a motion picture on shared equipment it certainly is preferable to work with Avid because that's the standard in mainstream Hollywood for collaborative work.

For cranking out 300+ porn videos a year in a self contained workflow, one can use pretty much anything including Windows Movie Maker to varying degrees of effectiveness.

Even this cam would still provide a much higher quality master to edit before exporting to SD. Its no different than starting with high quality images before resizing in lower resolutions for customer consumption.

Redshoe I'm glad you posted....I'm one of your affiliates, but I haven't sent any traffic in a while. I love your sites and need to get back to them. Shit gets lost in the shuffle (i promote hundreds of programs on my tgps) Do you guys ever send out affiliate emails with new hosted galleries? I rarely have time to log into the admin areas, but I'd like to run more of your stuff.

To each his own Mr Gunn.

It sounds like you may have had a bad experience in mainstream, but I know a few editors, and old FX friends that still enjoy it. And I myself miss my mainstream days. The editors I know certainly don't work for $15.00 an hour.

When I was doing FX, I wasn't making more than $30.00 an hour. I made all my money on residual checks, and still make money from movies I worked on 10 years ago.

I have been cranking out 300 scenes, trailers and whatever else each year since I left TripleXCash, and to be honest this isn't all it's cracked up to be either.

Working in porn is a young mans job. This is an 18 year old boys wet dream. 16 years later, It tends to lose it's luster.

A friend of mine is old enough to be my father and he eats and breathes porn, and to listen to him talk scares the shit out of me. I don't want to end up like him. Pussy, and the pursuit of pussy has destroyed him.

But I digress...

A friend of mine left FX several years ago to become an editor and she ended up cutting the trailers for Lord of the Rings and she had her name mentioned at the Oscars.

There comes a point in most mens lives when you look back to see what legacy you'll leave behind. And Mr. Gunn... right about now, mine is looking pretty grim.

And as far as working in porn or mainstream, the money doesn't matter to me. When you do something for fame or fortune, you're doing it for the wrong reasons. You'll never be happy. I've made more money in porn than I could ever make in mainstream, and to be honest I was happier in mainstream. My old man told me that it doesn't matter what you do in life, just as long as you're happy. I didn't believe him, and I wasted 16 years learning that lesson.

So thanks for your concern Mr. Gunn, but again I say... to each his own.

That's not bad. When you say one hour...did you mean edit and render? Or just edit. I can do all of that in 15 minutes with my Edirol deck. But rendering...that takes some time.

Nice job.

Small clips like this is fast like hell on a MAC. We have done the editing and the rendering in 1.5 hour but my editors are pro's.

Pretty slick YellowDude
I've never used a mac except fooling around. I guess when you start on one thing you tend to stay with it...I'd like to try macs, but I'm so pressed for time working every day that I don't think I'd have enough time to get good on it fast enough and then have to re-purchase the tens of thousands of dollars worth of software that I use in all my stuff.

So I guess I'm chained to the PC

Yeah, you have to put some $$ and time in it. Finalcut and After affects you don't learn in a week. Mac is made for editing and rendering special with enough memory in that case windows stays WAY behind.

BUT when you are used to a MAC you only use windows for making fast a TGP page or some other applications that MAC don't have, so in fact we have both but we use every machine for the best.

I don't believe only in MAC or Windows, you must have it all.

That is one of the reasons I got the Edirol Direct Linear editing deck. It took windows out of the equation. And the Roland audio and Edirol video effects are awesome and fast and easy to apply. Also it keeps my workstation free while I'm editing.

I have a huge work desk and I have the Edirol and a 19" flat screen on one side and my PC and another 19" flat screen on the other. I also have this:

Which connects to the editing deck via ethernet cable. Kinda gives the old school feel of working with film.

I often edit with one hand and work on my PC with the other hand. LOL That's how I find time to post on GFY

Hey man the new panasonic HCM 150 is coming out in October. Thats the camera to get next.

Actually I never worked in mainstream at all. And I wouldn't even refer to myself as an editor per se, I am mostly a producer and director who learned a lot about editing through hands on use. I got into porn specifically to become a director directly out of college back in the days when we filmed on Beta SP and Hi-8mm and released movies on VHS! There has been a lot of changes to the industry since then that is for sure. It was only a few years ago that I actually learned to do video editing and since then of course I have learned a lot more technical things about video encoding Photoshop, DVD authoring, html, and many other things that I use in my business.

I enjoy learning new things all the time and putting them to practical use. Anyway, sounds like Avid is a good idea for you if you are pretty much bored with porn and looking for an exit route since those in mainstream tend to work collaboratively and Avid (and to some extent FCP) are the standards. For everyone else I'd recommend trying all the demos of each popular suite of software, eg Premiere Pro, Vegas, Avid Express, and FCP if they are Mac friendly and try them out. They are all practically the same and if you are a decent editor anyone can become proficient enough in any one of them to get the job done. It's the same with lighting or still photography- the user and his or her skill matters far more than the equipment.

Robbie the ex1 would be a much better choice than red scarlet. The camera looks like its amazing in low light. Scarlet resolution is a waste for porn, your not going to be putting up on the big screen.
