Your Video Editor Of Choice :::

Hey guys, what is your video editor or choice?

I've been a Sony Vegas user for a few years but I'm thinking about learning Premier Pro CS3. Vegas is great software but when I look at all the plugins and other goodies available for editors, Vegas is way down the priority list with these developers. I found several beautiful plugins for video editors that were not available for Vegas

I'm a huge premiere/after effects fan.

I do more code edits in premiere... light color corrections, clip pulls, etc... Then switch project over to after effects for graphics, heavy corrections, and final format dumps.

I haven't found anything other software has been able to handle that my CS3 suite with a few pluggys can't.

You ever want to shoot this shit while you are going through the learning curve, feel free to hit me up.

If I left vegas I would go with Avid or FCP. It would be a skill then that would also have value in mainstream as well as adult.

I've head this train of thought quite a bit... but still have some trouble with it.

I've worked with FCP, Avid, shit... A lot of editors... but never been big about caring what industry standard was... You Need output that will work in your Avid, FCP or whatever the fuck else... shouldn't be that hard to setup... right?

How much core difference is there between nle's? You get the basics down on 1-2, you can pretty much edit anywhere... at least from my humble experience.

I am a long time Adobe Premiere user, and CS3 is working well for me to edit SD and HDV footage daily. All the major editing apps are similar, so it's just a matter of preference if you prefer Vegas' interface. Or if you aspire to work in a mainstream, group environment like some people instead of a self contained workflow, you may want to try Avid , or FCP if you are a Mac person. I also use the Cineform Aspect HD plugin for editing HDV (not necessary anymore really) and a bunch of other software for other specialized tasks that play well with Premiere Pro like Adobe Encore for DVD authoring, Photoshop for various tasks and After Effects sometimes for specific jobs, as well as a number of different apps for batch video encoding and processing like Cleaner XL 1.5, Sorenson Squeeze, VideoCharge and a few others.

I am still using Vegas 4.0 but now i just stepped into the HDV world.

I think I want to stay with Vegas.

Anyone have Vegas 6.0 or higher they want to sell? I really don't need all the bells and whistles. Vegas 4.0 is fine except it doesent do HD. :-(

I was doing all my stuff on Avid, took the time to learn Vegas and ended up loving it. After effects is certainly fun to play with as well... I wish I had the time to mess with it more.

I use vegas for 2 reasons

Its fast

Its efficient

if you know how to use one NLE you know how to use all of them and theres very little that one can do that another cant do

unless you are in a mutliuser/project oriented environment avid and FCP are bloatware

the rest of its just personal preference

Jake has a point here. An editor is usually a person, an editing program or software or an editing app(lication) is usually how one refers to the software.

I use a stand alone Roland Edirol Editing Deck for the actual editing. Then I capture the finished product with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for rendering.

Adobe CS3, after a year I think I have it right for the very first time LOL, it is amazing at what you can get away with by calling yourself homemade. WIsh I could have used this excuse in high school. I still have a long way to go but if you saw what I started with I would probably get a cookie

Sure did. Have a very nice looking .mp4 setting that makes some pretty big files, about a third again larger than the old .wmv . I'm offering that as a high internet speed version. It's flawless looking. But it takes a long time to render because I set it up to give the best possible quality (complex settings, etc.) But it's worth the 4 to 6 hour rendering for a 25 minute vid because it just looks so damn good.

Then I have a low speed version which is a much lower bitrate and using the "fast" settings. Takes about 30 minutes to render. File size is about a third less of the .wmv file it replaces.

Seems to work fine with those two settings. If the member has a good broadband connection and isn't using all of his resources on his machine the high quality one starts streaming in about 3 seconds.

The low version can stream even when I'm uploading files at the same time. It doesn't look quite as good as the high version, but it still looks pretty good, and better than 50% of the stuff I see out there.

Good deal. Since our exclusive sites are HD we don't worry too much about slower bandwidth older computers, cause frankly its not our market.

I'm in the process of buying a big new pimp house in Las Vegas...but as soon as I get it done and get my shit moved cross country I'm buying this camera:

Then I'll join in on the HD gimmick.

Actually the Red Scarlet might be the better investment if you can hold off until early 2009.

http://www.red.com/nab/scarlet

It will easily be the best $3000 camera on the market.

Are you sure? That thing looks like a flashlight! Wow. What are the specs on it? I didn't see any.

Hang on...that camera ain't gonna cost $3000 The 3K that you see is resolution. I'm looking at the only model that they have available right now: The Red One. It's a "4k" one. And it costs $17,500 for the body only.

Whoa....tack on another $8,500 for a lens. If the scarlet is priced anywhere close to this...and you know it will be...that's a little too much camera for me to shoot porn with. Looks real nice though.

You figure HD is shot at 1080 and this red one is shooting at 4000 lines. The scarlet will shoot at 3,000 lines. So it's gonna be hella-expensive.

Surely you can't be serious. However.. if you are, go back to that site, and download the PDF, scroll to the bottom. That should be enough of an answer for you.
