On 3 December 1992, an engineer called Neil Papworth sent the worlds first text message "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to colleagues at Vodafone.

Even though it was carrying just the two simple words, Papworth was unaware that his actions would change peoples lives forever in the way they communicate and open the door to the multi-billion dollar industry of Short Message Service (SMS) allowing people sending short messages to and from mobile phones.

Estimates of how many sms messages are now sent worldwide on a daily basis runs into trillions,in fact so many that it is impossible to put a figure on the actual amount.

Neil will be attending Qwebec Expo as a special guest of Global-Acces and looks forward to discussing how the adult industry can increase its revenues and benefit from using the latest phone and sms technology in todays fast changing world.

nice, SMS destroyed thousands of relationsships, makes you virtually available 24/7 which means no more freedom, lets jealous girlfriends stress you when you don't reply within 5 minutes, reveals with how many girls you are cheating on her when she gets hold of your phone, gives you a brain damage from all those various noises a phone can make and destroyed the grammar and spelling skills of a whole generation.

Yes thats correct.

He is not on the speaker/seminar panel simply relaxing and chatting

A lot of phreaks will argue if Neil Papworth actually changed the world. He had very little to do with INVENTING sms..

He was just a test engineer on the project and happened to be the one who sent the first sms text message...

No Don he doesnt know someone who sent a text message look his name up he sent the worlds first commerical text message and was part of the team that also invented it.

He didn't invent SMS. SMS was part of GSM standards back in the early 80's. The guy who invented it was some finnish guy way back then.

Still, I'm sure the guy is interesting to talk to.

Thanks pocketkangaroo yes your right.

Many different inventors worked on various forms of SMS.

One things for sure he did send the first commercial sms and is a very interesting different type of person that normally attends shows such as this.
