Can't go wrong with a Volkswagen man. I got a Jetta 2.0T for my wife and it's a pretty fun little car to drive, plus it gets like 38MPG on the highway. It's fully loaded and I think the grand total on it was only around $25K or something.

I've seen it, but I still don't buy it. a 1988 w/ 300k is worn out, there's virtually no exceptions to that.

This does bode well for my '98 Escort clunker w/ 100k that I used as a daily driver until recently, though.

I have to agree. I was a finance manager at a VW dealership and there is no better bang for the buck. especially in leasing. In today's economy the VW store I worked at has nearly doubled sales since last year this time. American car makes have gone away from leasing. Chrysler financial doesnt even do leasing anymore. (atleast in florida) and a Jetta payment is about 200 bucks a month. Cant go wrong.

define best?

safest - probably Volvo, but they aren't that cheap
cheap and very easy to maintain - VW, I've owned two in the past

best overall - Audi coz I drive one, I just wish I could afford newer model but I'm working on it ;)

...what kind of City/Highway do you get w/ that? You can't say it doesn't count, either.

The factory seatbelts in my wife's Jetta have Audi stamped on them.

I love my 9-5. I wouldn't give it up for the world, but I also don't like paying for the gas. 18/27.. and a lead foot. I've figured that it costs me roughly $0.25/mile with the current price of gas.
