WAREZ?? Anyone?

Back in the BBS days (early/mid 90's)... I ran a dialup board, and did have a warez / hpa section... Warez sites were some of the first sites I visited... I never set one up tho..

Anyone here got the balls to admit they run one of the more modern warez sites?? I'm not knocking them, they are great for traffic, and mostly based on bullshit = easy money.

Who is behind easywarez etc?? I am pretty sure split was behind t50, but can't be sure..

Dunno, Fill me in - I'm bored today

I had a DL list up for a while, along w/ brute forced PW sites, etc... Back when it was easy to BF a login page, and people were much less intelligent about password selection. Channel #xxxpasswords was a good resource for this stuff.

I remember Knightmare's site, Silicon Toad's Infinity Void, Minerva's Hideout and a slew of other warez / hack / crack sites from the early years. I used to chat over @ Pancreas for a while. But when a child grows up, he puts away childish things.

Are you kidding? The warez sites are the torrent trackers. The better warez sites offer quality control and organization of the releases. Some limit themselves to certain types of content. But everything runs through private trackers so you can watch the ratios.

I used to help Op a few boards in the 407 back in the late 80's/early 90's, but I only know of a handful that are still around these days.

I gave up on all that many years ago, and moved on to other things.

No, but there's huge bucks in counterfeit software, DVDs and CDs. Organized crime has gotten into these rackets in a big way. It's more profitable than drug dealing and a hell of a lot less risky.

I used to be in the underground hiphop mp3 scene. We exposed TONS of underground artists back in 97-2000' and they're still cashing in on that popularity.

That was back before everyone and their cat had every bit of music at their fingertips on torrents, youtube, myspace etc etc.

rwarez.com was my first, then I moved it to fullversion.com - rampage is still my handle on most boards.

You must be old school to remember smitty and me. I wonder what Smitty is up to these days.

the trick back then, perhaps still so, was to password lock the .zip you downloaded and the pass you needed was on the 4th line 4th word in that line, with as header, Riskeymail4free Welcome`s email. $1 per signup, around 80-200 $ day on a DDL portal with 10-20K traffic a day. Warez is only there to milk out on a sneaky way the adult industry since day 1.

Old thread but is old school talk
I never had run a warez site, but I may know many of who had also a BBS before. My Group been "busted" in 1994 then most of us became good guys (just some continued cracking nintendo and other console stuff). Was before of internet ftp and irc warez scene, our BBS's was mostly running Amiexpress, forgot the name of the other soft for Ms-Dos, had a dozen in a few countries. We was good mates of Razor 1911 and Trsi (when was still 2 groups Tristar + Red Sector) and all the folks at USA BBS's Headquarters (Supplex, Silents, forgot mostly). It was fun for a kid to be there, a list of BBS's of the time refreshes my memory:trsi1guide.txt

I was really a cracker and trainermaker more than a sysop, my old intros code is easy to find in youtube, that's 1988-1993 stuff, good old 8 and 16bit assembly

Disclaimer: I am posting this since 1) the newest crack is 20+ years ago so prescription period barred by law prosecution and 2) soft cracked is abandonware and its authors unlikely to hate anymore.

To be honest, the only reason that my site ever dominated t50 and t100 was because back in 1996, Smitty and me used to chat in ICQ and he told me that I would never be better than him and that I was incapable of knocking him out of the number 1 spot. It was simply a challenge to me. Of course, he moved on from warez into the adult industry, like most people who were dominating warez in those days. I ended up diversifying into "free web hosting" sites and then starting a company that threw big raves. In retrospect, the adult industry would have been a much more lucrative choice considering how much money there was to be made. In any case, if someone has smitty's current email address, I did want to catch up with him out of posterity.

NES at the Shack is how I first got down,
Pops got a job, moved the fam to Sea-town,
Checkin' BBS's for my warez and porn,
Around this time the mafia was born,
Spendin' mad hours getting buff in LORD,
Get with the tavern ho, show off my long sword,
Couple years later, hit the Hotline scene,
Waitin' in queue is where I've never been seen,
Got hooked up with fat accounts,
Get my shit fast and in large amounts,
Use my Cyrix chip to cook my meals,
Laugh all you want, I'll own yo' ass at Whacky Wheels,
Got my emulators and a couple thousand ROMs
And all the F-Kiss from blah blah dot com,
Now we got Torrents and bandwidth up to our necks,
Looking back's crazy, but I wonder what's next.

All:
Back in the day, Shufflepuck Cafe,
Banner ads, gettin' paid, ICQ, gettin' laid,
Back in the day, we knew Sulu was gay,
Munchin' numbers, runnin' lodes, monochrome displays.
Back in the day, Shufflepuck Cafe,
Banner ads, gettin' paid, ICQ, gettin' laid,
Back in the day, we knew Sulu was gay,
Munchin' numbers, runnin' lodes, monochrome displays.

Coaxke:
Back in the day, System 7.5,
Had HyperCard stacks on my SyQuest drive,
Once I got a modem I was never fuckin' bored,
Always dialin' up a BBS to play me some LORD,
I stole my school's dial-up to get the internet,
Had a copy of Ircle and no regrets,
Chillin' in #macfilez, leechin' on bots,
It took nine years to get a download spot,
Hours and hours, makin' Marathon maps,
Always on the run 'cuz I set it to caps,
Eventually I got a brand new Power Mac,
So fuckin' fast, I almost had a heart attack,
Ran a Hotline server on my school's T1,
"Win Ben Stein's Warez" was the name of that one,
Quake 3 Test in the computer lab,
Never went to class 'cuz that shit was a drag.

All:
Back in the day, Shufflepuck Cafe,
Banner ads, gettin' paid, ICQ, gettin' laid,
Back in the day, we knew Sulu was gay,
Munchin' numbers, runnin' lodes, monochrome displays.

Back in the day, we knew Sulu was gay,
Munchin' numbers, runnin' lodes, monochrome displays.

Subrandom:
Back in the day, cruisin' through the DOS prompt,
A litte modem action I got anything I want,
Blake Stone or some Duke 3D,
IPX LAN, don't fuck with me,
Back in the day we had four buttons man,
Gravis GamePad 'til we lost our tan,
ZZT, where I made my first game,
Shit was mad hot 'til Click-n-Play came,
Up in the attic, it's Jumpin Flash,
All day long 'til a PlayStation crash,
Pirated Thrill Kill, what a waste of time,
Now I get why they trashed that crime,
We got nerd history, stories for days,
Spit it how I lived it 'til this shit pays,
So back up off if you question the cred,
OG nerds, we'll cut off your head.

PC Speaker:
Yo, back in the day, shit was the best,
I pirated Duke Nukem off a BBS,
A pimp with a 486 dx, deuce,
Double piped to increase my juice,
Halloween Harry and Commander Keen,
Nowadays, it seems like a wonderful dream,
Up in school, I'm on the LC 2s,
Used the backdoor to drop right outta Foolproof,
Then one day, there was the internet,
And anything I wanted, I could easily get,
Anytime I wanted A-double-P-Z,
Just connect to H-O-T-L-I-N-E,
Click the banner, fourth word, seventh line,
Log in and anything I wanted was mine,
I started up a server called "Industrial Strength,"
And got sued by the R-I-double-A,
But I was born into a new world of computers,
And we became a generation of looters,
But I said it before, and I'll say it again,
It's like bein' high just rememberin'.
