San Franciscans? San Francisco-ers? SF'ers?

Any GFY'ers in San Fran proper or the Bay area?

I'm moving from Florida to SF in a couple of weeks and I'm coming into town on Sept 3rd for a few days to try to find an apartment. The SF rental market is a little intimidating.

Any advice (other than "don't live in the Tenderloin")?

Anyone have an apartment they're leasing/subletting/renting?

Anyone want to meet up while I'm in town for a few days?

Congrats on the move. As far as rentals, I know my aunt and uncle had some flats over on Fell Ave. Right by Golden Gate Park. I have a feeling anywhere in The City is going to be more expensive than FL.

What brought on this big move?

An ex-GF of mine had a loft that was $2.5k a month. Tiny place in Pacific Heights. Nice neighborhood though.

best neighborhoods i lived in

Bernal Heights
Potreo Hill
The Haight - there is a fog factor
North Park
Noe Valley

It all comes down to availability and your lifestyle. If you want a bigger place and never go out look in The Richmond. If you want to enjoy the culture of the city look at one of the places i listed also Cow Hollow is nice.

this breaks it down pretty well

You're one of the lucky ones. It's usually mild-cold in the city. You get used to it after a while but people from the south that come here are always freezing. You can spot a tourist easily here. They will be wearing either a hoodie or jacket with "San Francisco" in cursive. It never fails. I had family come visit a few times this summer and they weren't so lucky but they loved it!

Thanks baddog! Yeah, it's WAY more expensive than FL. I've already gotten over the sticker shock...lol.

The move is for a new job...and yes, it's in adult.

I kind of ruled out Bernal Heights because I heard it was kind of "suburban"? I'm trying to stay as central as I can...North Beach, Marina, Nob Hill, Castro, Haight. I'd like to be close to public transportation as well as some decent restaurants/bars/nightlife in the area.

I would love to live in the SOMA, but it's way out of my budget.

public transpo kicks asses all over the city. is south of market more expensive now than the marina or snob hill, or north beach?

noe valley is right up 24th street from the castro, it borders it but it's low key so you can sleep at night without all the racket.

Yeah, SOMA is upwards of $3k a month. I've been tracking Craigslist and Nob Hill, Marina, North Beach are all more affordable.

Warm weather? That is not normal.

North Beach and the Marina are not central. Not sure were you are going to be working but Kink, Gamelink, Falcon and most of the other companies are all Soma/Mission. North Beach is nice but it is hard to get in and out of via bus. The 30 Stockton cuts right through China Town and is packed all day. The best way to commute from there is on a bike. I would look at the Haight or Noe Valley.

Hmmmm...thanks for this. That kind of changes my game plan a little bit since I was leaning toward North Beach. And I ain't riding a bike in high heels.

cole valley is pretty cool too, it borders the haight. not sure how the prices are there these days.

oh, re: high heels, you'll want to be wearing running shoes for your commute, even without the bike! :-) i never liked seeing all the ladies dressed up for work wearing them but i can understand why.
