Who makes the most reliable, highest quality desktops these days?

Another year, another dead Dell. I'm ready to try a new computer. And I'm not looking for the best deal. Something reliable with high quality components.

Anyone have a favorite?

thanks for the input.

I went out to look and see what the stores were carrying last night becuase my Windows box crapped out on me and it was time for an upgrade. I came home with an HP Core 2 Quad. Has a 1 TB drive and 5 gig of ram out of the box. Cost me just over $700 with tax. The on board video setup probably blows, but I already had a card at home so it wasn't a big issue.

This came from Circuit City. I was in and out of the store in 5 minutes. The guy didn't even bother to try and sell me on the warranty, so that 10 minutes of shit is worth another $25 in my book.

You want reliable and high quality, you pay a little more than $200.

I'm happy with the $200 desktops; they last me 3 years, then get regifted to cheap relatives.

I've never had a problem with dells. Had them since I was like 10...

You say it's "dead" but it's a computer what part died? replace it.

Custom build.

I still like Alienware, but honestly, it depends on what kind of system I need. Main machine, I go with good custom build. Laptop, or secondary machines. I go with what is convenient.

I've had my Dell Dimension for 4 and a half years and i've never had any problems with it. Only crashes one or twice a year, the hard drive has never failed. It runs dreamweaver and photoshop fine so its all I need.

I can't stress enough how much I've loved every desktop and laptop I got from Dell. Their onsite warranty is worth every penny.

As far as desktops, I have a guy in town who's been putting together refurbed IBMs for me with whatever specs I need. So far, so good.

How people manage 5 years on the same PC I find amazing. I upgrade every 12-18 months on my main machine. 24 typically on secondaries.

I have to laugh when I pass up their onsite warranty. IF anyone could get to my house, it would cost them more in gas than they made off the sale of the computer. Plus, I doubt most of their techs are driving 4WDs

We had a problem once right out of the box and they offered to come and replace the HD even though we didn't have online service. I told them they REALLY didn't want to do that and if they'd just FedEx the new HD to me with a return label, I'd consider it good CS

The one I mentioned above sits next to a new Mac that cost 4 times as much.

I love my Mac like any other fanboy, the laptops and the iMacs rock. But the price on the Mac pro compared to what you can get running Windows is pretty crazy. Yeah, I get taken care of at the Apple Store when needed. But that's been 2 times in I don't know how many products.

It's suckers like me that keep buying their shit and keeping the prices up.

I build my own from scratch... nop ...not choosing the parts on the web and having others assemble it for me ... I do it all myself, thats how I know I got exactly what I wanted...

I used to do that. Now I am just too busy, and/or lazy.

In the past, I have used newegg.com, ibuypower.com, and alienware.

I would never use ibuypower again. The other two have been solid. When I need a machine on the fly, I just grab one from best buy.
