You have to send in an application with all your details, SS# etc and then after 6 months they will send you a check for $2,800.00. Which may cover one mortgage payment

Or, you will have to pay extra taxes to pay for this bail out.

well... at last DOW is holding up at ~ +130 .... not bad compared to the last 777 plunge due to the rejection of the bill. However, it'll be interesting to see how the bill will indeed affect the overall economy as they are now talking about broad points which WILL come out once the average American feels their financial effects....

No Armageddon today ..... thats a good thing

But is it? All that happened here was they slapped a bandaid on a gushing wound. What are we going to do when the bandaid fails and the infection is so bad nothing good can be done for it?

Wait 6 months to a year and we will see how good this was for the people.

Adds another couple grand to the $30,000 plus each American already owes if we are ever to balance the Federal debt. Fuckers.

99.9% of those people wont even use their $2,800 or whatever check for a mortgage payment, are you kidding me? they will use it to buy themselves a "much earned vacation" or new clothes

F that, they should have to work an extra amount of time to make up for it at mcdonalds

Thats what I said on the first paragraph but I gotta concur.... things don't seem to be looking good so far... a few mins after the bill passed and we are in negative territory and low positive for INDU.....

Wait a min, last time I checked the 700B was to be used to purchase "bad debt", not for people to pay off the mortgages...

Looks like things were looking up until they announced that there were 159,000 jobs lost last month making that the 9th straight month with a loss and it caused the market to go back down so it is at -157 for the day.

Things are not looking good.

Where do you see anything about this?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081003/...own_tax_breaks

$2800 won't cover my mortgage, but it can go to a portion of my quarterly taxes. That's all these tax breaks seem to be good for: To send it all right back.

It's good they passed the bill. Without the provision for funding the much needed maintenance of Nascar raceways, rednecks can't get drunk and watch. The economy would collapse!

So the market collapses and government pours money in it?

This sounds somewhat familiar to me..

The trouble is that it was an anti-climax. Everyone was expecting it but few people think it will make a major difference, especially to interbank lending.

Now we have bad news on the jobs front and its going to get worse so dont expect a rally next week. I can see the dow pulling down to 8000 or even lower. On the other hand, if Obama gets in, it could rally into December (a) because Obama is in and (b) because Bush is fucking finally out!!

But next year itll be bearish all over again, either way...

Congrats southern cousins.

You're the next contestants on........"Let's All Become Stockmarket Shareholders"

(spins the wheel of doom)

Oh, oh....oh my - sorry folks. Didn't see it landing on that square. My bad. Sorry about your $700 billion.

(studio audience grows silent)

However...we DO have this nice consolation prize - a year's supply of Kleenex brand tissues to cry into and a copy of Oliver Stone's "Wall Street" movie newly remastered on DVD.

Did they change the bill so only American investors could turn in their bad investments?
The reasons most people voted no in the first place was that foreign investors like Bank of China and Saudi Arabia would get their money back.
