change the dns to a parked page that pays you, or don't complain.

they are not the only host that does this... if you don't put up an index page its lost money, and they might just find it.

What about 404 error; can they put ads on that page too???

I call that abuse at the least and theft at the most.

They own the server but not the domain and have no right what so ever to place
any content or links on the domain.

I bet if you opened 10 bank accounts and forgot about one you'd hit the roof if you
found out an employee was despositing money and then writing checks on that
account.

Same thing here bro.

If you still host with them after finding this out then you are a fool.

You paid for that server slot and what you put there or don't put there is
up to you and not the host. Only if you violate a policy should they ever touch
your site.

Web Air does not suck, when You create a new domain via their CP, they create a parking page, its pretty simple to quickly remove this page, and if your a power user you create your own setup and run your own box. Quit your bitchin and watch out for your own stuff.

Hi mx8829, Upon registering for a new domain the default name servers go to a parking service. When adding a new domain to your account via the control panel it will default to a coming soon page. You just need to replace the index file.

If you need assistance with this please let me know. Thank you.

Every webhost I've ever used puts a generic parked page when a domain is set up. You fucking people are morons for bitching about it. New text file..."under construction"...save as index.html....upload...done.

Odd the host I use (which is a large well known one) has no such policy I am aware of. Whenever I add a domain it just adds the domain. If someone or I was to type it in, I would just get the empty site directory view.

I am pretty sure they feel that if I paid for a server I can leave what I want empty. They are already getting their money as it is.

Why is this even a default option, when someone else is paying for that server space anyways? What would a hosting company loose by just leaving it alone and not putting anything in the directory by default?

Yes it may be a minor thing. Yet it would be no different than a host making a default 404 page as mentioned or any other error page and saying well you can change it, all YOU need to do is ftp in and upload a new file. I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass this could be if you go to add a hundred or so domains at once.

I gave them enough time to sort it out, but no help, so I have moved my domains. I am not a big client, so I don't think me moving my $350/m hosting to a new host will hurt them in anyways, but I have been hosting with WA for over 4+ years, and today they lost me.

I do understand webhosts do make money off of free traffic, but what bugged me was the level of support I got when I reported the issue and needed it to be sorted out.

anyways time to move on.

Based on how long some people stay with the same host,
I'd say they lost $25-$30k from your move.

4 yrs X $350 = $16,800 you already paid for this service.

I guess $16,800 is not enough for someone to fix it for you.

Hey, I'm just another guy with hosting company.. and quick question. Why do you think Webair's support sucks? I'm really curious cause we're growing rapidly right now and we try to give best interpersonal support (since we're smaller).

btw, sorry to thread jack

Excellent decision. From everything I read, see and hear about webair they are one of the worst hosts in the biz. It sucks that they fucked you like this but now you should be much better off in the long run. Good luck to you mate.

I never hosted with webair but it's not "webair".
It's the new trend of quick hosting setups that promise people can run a hosting
company with little experience.

In the old days you had to find a good server tech just to launch the company.
Now it seems to be an after thought. "Oh shit, we need somebody who can install
shit on the server for all this web 2.0 etc..."

But what's being installed had been around for years.

Take an empty box and have your potential employee put it online and
install several well know webmaster scripts. If they can't do it then don't hire or have a training program.

Hiring a tech that doesn't know the adult industry and the common tools being used
is not the best choice.

A great tech should also have some basic knowlege in either C, PERL or PHP.

You'd better get on the registrars too, because when you register a site and don't do anything to it they put ads up too.

But I understand being pissed off and taking biz elsewhere, I have done that myself too. Sometimes it is just a waste of time though, when acting on emotions.

I don't "think" Webair's support sucks. I know their support sucks from my own experience with them. How does their support suck? Gee, let me count the ways. Just do a search right here at GFY and you'll find tons of Webair sucks threads.

Youre a fucking retard for hosting with Webair. End of thread.

God, all these idiots starting Webair complain threads. How many of them do you need to see before you realize not to host with those imbeciles. 100 or so clearly is still not enough. Morons.

You must be on drugs.

That stuff she said about a registrar putting up a parking page on your domain
is pretty stupid when you should enter a name server with each domain when you
reg it. Unless she is pointing her name server back to the registrar the stuff she
said is rediculous.

It's a very simple concept when you register a domain with us you have 2 options:

**Option A - Do not enter DNS and you will automatically receive a a complimentary "future home of ((insert your domain name))" page.

**Option B - insert the DNS of your choice.

Additionally, if you register bulk domains you can add any DNS you prefer to all of them upon registration or after registration in the domains manager.

When you host as many domains and ips that webair does there is usually a simple solution to anything you may come across.

Posting on GFY for support is usually your slowest option. You should just call or login to your CP and ask someone who has the answer to your question without all the useless drama you get here =)

I have never seen so much time wasted on such simplicity. Please move on now i am going back to the woman of costa rica! =))
