Programmers...

I see a lot of people on here offering programming services and what not. Most don't seem like big jobs paying a lot of money. I look at monster.com and other local job sites and see job openings paying anywhere from $50,000 to $250,000+. What's the deal? Do you not want a good paying salary job with all the benefits or what? Share please...

I can't stand corporate bullshit, personally. I've been there. Most of the people offering services here are from third world countries, or nearly-third-world countries, and are offering their services over the internet because they're getting paid incredibly well compared to local standards. There aren't too many US hospitals that want to employ someone who lives in the Ukrane.

I got tired of the private industry. They think they own you because
they pay you more than the average 'office worker'. Everything has to
be done yesterday. Most CEO's are arrogant pricks and are threatened by the fact that
someone may know more than they do. Most of the high paying jobs are for such obscure
criteria, they might as well scrap the whole system and start over.
So I went and got a cushy job, now I only code for myself.

I get a job working for a web company for 6 months, make $60k to 80k, then quit to work on my own projects.

I won't get rich making $140k a year. Even if I did it for 10 years that still only 1.4 million.

BUT, if you make the next myspace or youtube or even a crappy website, you can make $30k a month it's still better than working someplace you don't like.

Right now, I am hoping the tube craze will take off and I can convince more producers to lease me content on BodyDot.com. Even if I can't it's still better than a 9-5 where I hate myself and my job.

GFY probably isn't the best place to ask this... there are those that are into the corporate, "good paying salary job" thing, and then there are those that are not, most of the people that hang out on here belong to the latter...

Have you ever worked in a corporate environment as a programmer? It is horrible. I like where I am at now, it's not so strict, I get the benefits I need and make good money.

Although, I did upload a resume a year ago and I still usually get atleast a call a week.

Some people would have to move out of state to even consider it.

Look at this search for all computer jobs in the entire state of Hawaii :

http://jobsearch.monster.com/Search....iles&pg=1&vw=b

Now enter a key word of "php" then enter keyword "perl"...and there is nothing.

The jobs that are there often are "civilian-military", which means you get raked
across the coals with lie detector test, piss test, finger printing, security clearance(where they scare the shit out of your neighbors by asking questions about you and not telling the neighbors why)...etc...

Been there, done that.

Good luck.

The only real money that can be earned from GFY for programmers is in the commercial web application scene. I use to do free lancing and sell web applications online (actually working on a new product), but as of lately I've just been scoping out the adult biz to see what has been going on in the web application world.

Back in January I started full-time on salary at the Florida Institute of Technology as a web developer. They are paying for my college too, so salary and benefits puts me at $50,000 starting...my first job ever outside of GFY and old script sales. Not too bad for being 21 years of age and no college degree(s) (when I was hired - I'll have 3 after next semester).

So it's not to say GFY can't help you develop the experience needed to get a job in the real world, but I've never seen any full-time position available on GFY that even came close to matching this. Especially the free education for myself and all dependents once I'm married one day (far away) lol...

I like you and no offense but don't use Hawaii or Alaska as examples.

Well, If I lived in Los Angeles I wouldn't have posted my answer.

Ya you're definitely right on that. There ARE high paying jobs with the bigger "adult" companies though. The people behind the nastydollas, bangbros, etc... corp are always hiring IT people for example. You don't see those offers posted on gfy so most people probably don't know.

I'm employed full time programming in the adult industry and enjoy my job. I liked the freedom of freelancing before I had a job but the reality is I enjoy having my job now more. I don't have to deal with clients as much and I am able to learn from coworkers and rely on them for support and feedback. I also make more, although not as much as I think I should be making but with the economy the way it is I can't complain too much. I get to program the majority of the time vs before I had to spend 70% of my time talking to clients and gathering requirements from them when they only had a vague idea of what they wanted. When I return home I can do what I want instead of feeling guilty that I should be working every waking moment.

I'm planning on sticking around at the company I am at. They seem like they have a lot of room for advancement and pay. Hopefully that is the case because I've had lots of companies make promises to me before and it never go anywhere.
