Confession time.

OK who has built or at least thought about building a "ah shit" survival kit of food, ammo, etc. in case shit goes ape shit for a few weeks or months due to politics or the economy?

If so what is in it, why did you make it or think about it, is it paranoia or just good planning even if you never use it?

If not why?

Oh a kit can also be used for any natural disaster as well.
I am pretty sure most would guess what my answer already is correctly.

They are already recommended to have. We have also seen that when natural disasters hit one can not count on the Government helping your ass out with even simple shit like water. That is not even going into any economic or political issues at the moment either.

Is it paranoia or is it a case of being prepared for the worst?

Can it really hurt to have some extra canned goods, matches, camping gear, etc on hand so in the event you are cut off from the world due to a flood or 10 feet of snow or whatever you don't starve to death?

It's those who end up totally screwed in such a situation and sitting on their roof crying for help that call it "paranoia".

That is my feelings CDSmith, just was curious if any others have done so or followed through beyond adding it to some mythical todo list.

The thought has crossed my mind many times over the years, especially getting a gun. Probably in part because the church i went to as a child told us all families should have such a thing that should last several months. Well not really a gun but enough food and supplies should the grid go down.

I think it's close to paranoid but whatever happens, I have enough mineral water and ice tea and ice coffee at home.. and medication enough for a month. And some canned and frozen stuff.

Then I guess I fall into the paranoid state since I have not 1 but 2 such kits. A smaller but very well packed emergency kit that is in the pantry by the door for quick retrieval. Then a long term kit that is in one of our sheds.

Right after the 9/11 aftershocks (dirty bombs, dc sniper, anthrax, etc) we stockpiled a TINY collection of canned food and water, just to last out any short term outages, knowing full well that if anything big goes down we are totally unprepared.

No weapons or shelters though.

It is not a problem, not something I'd judge you for.. I think I have become a fatalist, that's all.

I wouldn't worry about it. If shit hits the fan, many of you will be put in a "REX 84" camp(google it). For your own protection of course... That's exactly what will happen. People will feel betrayed/fucked, and there's gonna be a circus. Vaccinations, de-fleeing baths, microchips, getting to know new people, on 2 square feet... cozy shit if u ask me...

Yes did it some after 911 as far as stocking up on water canned goods first aid etc. Have long term plans for the next house I have built. Hidden rooms beyond the expected foundation of the house. 3 or 4 atv's hidden down there ready to go if needed, with an exit of some sort to get them out that is hidden. Have a lot of "plans" just not the finance that I need yet to complete them. So hopefully I do before anything goes really bad. lol Not a wackjob, but yes will be stocked with assult rifles, handguns, shotguns, etc. Longterm plan and will be a while till it comes to fruition.

I also keep a small kit in my vehicles, just that kit also includes a recording device as well as a camera. You know in case of traffic accidents.

Not sure about fatalist though. Checked the definitions and I could only find this.
1. The doctrine that all events are predetermined by fate and are therefore unalterable.
2. Acceptance of the belief that all events are predetermined and inevitable.

I see nothing as predetermined, hell I do not even go for karma. Nor do I think for a certainty that any event or disaster will strike. I am actually hoping I never need to use them. I just been the type who does like to prepare and well as a kid when we lived way the hell out in nowhere, way the hell up in the forest. We got snowed in at one point and power went out for 3 weeks. Zero running water, no electricity, nadda. Things went from cozy to hell real fast

I have a hurricane disaster kit. It contains water, canned tuna, instant mashed potatoes, water-proof zip lock bags that can fit my computers and documents, etc.

So, yes, you can say I'm a little paranoid. But then again, I live in the Caribbean now, so... you do the math

I never thought about that, I don´t know what can happen, but I think it won´t be so bad to need such a kit...

I hope I am not wrong

Living where I live I've keep one "active" for over 7 years. I have a generator but no natural gas line so my power is only good for as long as the propane tank holds and that's only a few days.

Ever since the quake in 1989 I’ve had a camping backpack with things that would allow me to survive on my own, camping style, for 2-3 months. Clothes, tent, sleeping bag, important personal and bank documents, water purification tablets, dehydrated food packs, gun/ammo, solar powered radio, etc.
