Countdown To Sarah Palin Drop Out As Vp

Bookmark this thread..the countdown begins now.. I predict before the VP Debates

Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, admitting that until recently she was a vocal supporter of Sarah Palin, now says the vice presidential nominee should bow out:

Some of the passionately feminist critics of Palin who attacked her personally deserved some of the backlash they received. But circumstances have changed since Palin was introduced as just a hockey mom with lipstick -- what a difference a financial crisis makes -- and a more complicated picture has emerged.

As we've seen and heard more from John McCain's running mate, it is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem. Quick study or not, she doesn't know enough about economics and foreign policy to make Americans comfortable with a President Palin should conditions warrant her promotion.

Parker says her turnaround came from watching Palin in interview. Like other critics, she wasn't impressed:

Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I've been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I've also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there's not much content there.

It's so bad, Parker says, that Palin should quit the race:

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Report: McCain Aides Complain That Palin Is "Clueless"

Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."

On Friday, conservative columnist Kathleen Parker said that after seeing Palin in interviews, she thinks the vice presidential nominee should drop out.

LOL..what about Israel? What about citing examples of John McCain "i'll find out and get back to ya".

I mean I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt until the debates but this is just a disaster, and even worse, embarrassing. It just makes the country look bad, period. I've got family abroad and overseas and they are having a field day with her..

Well the good news is that Palin will make McCain look bad and in terms of how he failed to make the right choice and this is not good for McCain.

The bad news is that Americans are dumb enough that McCain will STILL win the election so they can have their GWB mark II.

LOL... like Joe Biden is any better??? LOL
Sarah Palin isn't going anywhere. But Biden might be. Rumers are he'll be out by Oct. 5th.

Regardless of who it is.. Obama/Biden/Clinton or McCain/Palin - NONE OF THEM ARE QUALIFIED to be in charge right now. If you say Obama is and McCain isn't - your intellectually dishonest - and vice versa.

You can't say Obama is better on the economy. That's a total joke. He himself admits that he is not an economic expert - so he has surrounded himself with expert advisers. The problem is, MOST of those advisers are the former heads of GOLDMAN, LEHMAN, FANNIE & FREDDIE! Some of which may end up indicted! If that's not a total lack of judgement... then Palin is a financial genius.

Additionally - you can't say that McCain is better on the economy because he too admits he is not that informed or knowledgeable on the economy. He doesn't have the best advisory staff either - but they are atleast not plucked from all the failing companies on Wall Street.

So, ultimately... BOTH major party tickets are perilously UNQUALIFIED for the job. And if you are here on GFY bashing one and proclaiming the other the 'savior' your just another political hack with ZERO credibility.

One thing is certain... the economic landscape for the next decade will be nothing like the last and the global political climate is getting ever stickier by the day (China/Russia/Iran/Venezuela/etc.).

If/when the thieves in DC finalize this bailout crap - once again, the US taxpayers will payoff the bad debts of the elite - just like we've done in the past - and will do in the future.

Yeah he most certainly is.
Thinking him and Palin are equal in any way is absurd.

It's incredible she's made it this far, here's a little list of the many lies she's told on the national stage since the conventions:

She lied about Alaska's contribution to America's oil and gas production.
She told ABC's Charles Gibson, during her first nationally televised interview that her state produced "nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." This was a lie. Alaska is the ninth-largest energy supplier in the U.S., accounting for a modest 3.5 percent share of the nation's total energy production. Source: The Washington Post. September 17, 2008.

She lied about the actual progress in constructing a natural gas pipeline from Alaska.
During her nationally televised convention address she said: "And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence." This was a lie. The pipeline exists only on paper. The first section has yet to be laid, federal approvals are years away and the pipeline will not be completed for at least a decade. In fact, although it is the centerpiece of Ms. Palin?s relatively brief record as governor, the pipeline might never be built. Source: The New York Times. September 10, 2008

She lied about her alleged pay-cut as mayor of Wasilla.
One thing Sarah Palin cites as proof of her reform credentials is a pay cut she says she took when she became Mayor of Wasilla in 1996. "As mayor I took a voluntary pay cut, which didn't thrill my husband; and then as governor I cut the personal chef position from the budget, and that didn't thrill my hungry kids." This was a lie. While Palin did appear to get a pay cut ordinance passed upon entering, her salary had actually gone up to the point where it ended up thousands of dollars higher than it was just before she took office, local press reports at the time show. Source: TPM Election Central. September 18, 2008

She lied about the Bridge To Nowhere.
In her speeches, she routinely and repeatedly uses the phrase: "I told the Congress 'thanks, but no thanks,' for that Bridge to Nowhere." In the McCain-Palin ads, the claim is that she "stopped the Bridge to Nowhere." This is a lie. She ran for office favoring it, wore a sweatshirt defending it, and only gave it up when the federal congress, Senator McCain in particular, went ballistic. She kept the money anyway, twice the cost of the original bridge. The Associated Press reported "Palin did abandon plans to build the nearly $400 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents. But she made her decision after the project had become an embarrassment to the state, after federal dollars for the project were pulled back, and after she had appeared to support the bridge during her campaign for governor." Source: The Associated Press. September 8, 2008

CBS Reported on this, on September 23, 2008:
?Congress' requirement that funds be spent on that bridge were removed before Sarah Palin became governor. She was therefore in no position to tell Congress anything about the bridge, one way or the other. During her campaign, she said she supported funding for the bridge.
Brad Plumer, citing the Anchorage Daily News:
PLUMER: Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
PALIN: Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."

She lied about pressuring Alaska's public safety commissioner to fire her ex-brother-in-law.
ABC recently released a statement that "Governor Sarah Palin Did Not Tell the Truth to ABC" regarding the fired official. Palin told ABC's Charles Gibson she dismissed Monegan for poor job performance and that neither she nor her husband pressured Monegan to fire State Trooper Wooten. "We never did. I never pressured him to hire or fire anybody." This was a lie. After ABC proved Sarah Palin lied she told reporters "pressure could have been perceived to exist, although I have only now become aware of it." Source: ABC News. September 18, 2008

She lied about her firing of the town librarian and police chief of Wasilla, Alaska.
Back when she was increasing the long-term debt of the town of Wasilla by 69 percent, Mayor Palin also fired the town's police chief and librarian, Irl Stambaugh and Mary Ellen Emmons. The accusation was that they were fired because they had supported her opponent in the previous election. Palin denied any political motivation. But whatever the merits of the firing, what is salient is that Palin's reflexive instinct was to lie in public about it. "There's been no meeting, no actual terminations" Palin told the Anchorage Daily News. This was another odd lie - easily disproven. Stambaugh's response was to read part of the letter given to him. "Although I appreciate your service as police chief, I've decided it's time for a change. I do not feel I have your full support in my efforts to govern the city of Wasilla. Therefore I intend to terminate your employment". Source: Anchorage Daily News. September 4th, 2008

She lied about asking her daughters for their permission for her to run for vice-president.
During a recent interview with Fox News Palin said "Well, I found out about the actual selection just a couple days before you guys all did." She told him that she took that time to consult with her family about the decision before accepting the job. "So I asked the girls what they thought and they are like, absolutely, let's do this, mom." Was this a lie? Because during her first interview with ABC's Charles Gibson he asked "And you didn't say to yourself, 'Am I experienced enough? Am I ready? Do I know enough about international affairs?', she replied "I didn't hesitate, no.. I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate." She didn't blink, yet she had 2 days to talk it over with her family. Oh, and she lied about having a 2 day head start, the McCain campaign has since revealed she was offered the job 1 day before it was officially announced. Source: Fox News. September 17, 2008

She lied about her opposition to wasteful federal earmarks.
NBC reports: As a vice presidential candidate, Gov. Sarah Palin has railed against federal earmarks, or congressional funding for pork-barrel projects. "In our state, we reformed the abuses of earmarks," Palin recently boasted to a rally in Lancaster, Pa. "We championed earmark reform up there," she said, "to stop Congress from wasting public money on things that didn't serve the public interest." But musty records culled from the archives of the Wasilla, Alaska, city government reveal that Palin was directly involved in soliciting millions of dollars in earmarks for Wasilla when she was mayor. And she got help from a well-connected Washington lobbyist. Steve Silver, the Wasilla lobbyist, is a former top staffer for Sen. Ted Stevens, (R-Alaska), who now is under federal indictment for allegedly failing to disclose thousands of dollars in services he received from a company that helped renovate his Alaska home. Under Palin, the city paid Silver about $40,000 a year to lobby on behalf of Wasilla. John McCain used his appearance on ABC's "The View" to lie about Sarah Palin's record on earmarks. McCain claimed that Palin had never requested earmarks for pet projects. In fact, as governor of Alaska, Palin requested $200 million in earmarks this year alone, more than any other state in the country. Source: NBC News. September 17, 2008

Lindsay Beyerstein of The Campaign Silo wrote on September 12, 2008:

?It's good to call out McCain and Palin on their hypocrisy, but I'm concerned that this discussion reinforces the idea that earmarks are inherently shameful.

Earmarks are not intrinsically frivolous or scandalous. They're riders on appropriations bills that allow members of Congress to set aside money for a particular organization, project, region, or program.

It's nonsensical for Palin to claim to have opposed earmarks as governor. Not only is she lying, she's saying something that, if true, would establish her incompetence as a governor. It is Palin's job to work with the Alaska's congressional delegation to get the best possible deal for Alaska.

McCain likes to claim that we could save tens of billions of dollars by eliminating earmarks. Like so many of his claims, this one is false. Most earmarks aren't even new spending. Usually they're just more specific directions for spending money that has already been allocated for a particular purpose. Let's say $100 million has already been set aside for bridge repairs. A member of Congress might add an earmark stipulating that $2 million of that money will go to widen a specific bridge in greater Peoria. Without the earmark, bureaucrats in the executive branch would have divvied up the bridge money. It's not clear that they would have made a better, or less politically motivated, decision.

We're all familiar with flagrant earmark abusers like Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) who use earmarks to fund boondoggles like the Bridge to Nowhere and pay off their cronies at public expense. However, we should be careful not to conflate earmarks with pork or corruption.?

Recent Palin lies continued....

She lied about her support for families of special-needs children.
Sarah Palin said during her convention speech ?To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.? Campaigning in Colorado on September 15th, Gov. Palin promised renewed attention to kids with special needs. She declared, ?Ever since I took the chief executive?s job up North I pushed for more funding for students with special needs,? and cited her own family?s experience with the issue. CBS News reports: ?Sarah Palin might have changed her mind on this one recently. However, Palin actually slashed funding for schools for special needs kids by 62%?. She also vetoed $275,000 in Special Olympics Alaska Funds. Source: CBS News. September 23, 2008

She lied when she said the teleprompter broke during her speech at the Republican National Convention. Several national media reporters who had clear views of the teleprompter during the speech, as well as the convention organizers themselves, proved this was a lie.

She lied about Obama's position on habeas corpus during her speech at the RNC convention. She said ?Al Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America, and [Obama is] worried that someone won't read them their rights.? Fact Check, a nonpartisan, nonprofit, consumer advocate for voters, reports ?Obama isn't worried, as Palin said, "that someone won't read them their rights" when it comes to suspected terrorists who are detained by the U.S. He does, however, support the right of detainees to challenge their imprisonment in federal court. That's the same position the Supreme Court took in June in a case called Boumediene v. Bush.?

She lied about her alleged tolerance of homosexuality, she told ABC's Charles Gibson "Oh, I don't know, but I'm not one to judge and, you know, I'm not going to judge them." This was a lie. She does judge them. Reports The Associated Press: "Gov. Sarah Palin?s church is promoting a conference "Pray the Gay Away" that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.. she opposes rights for gay couples."

She lied about her previous statements on climate change. Climate change is a critical issue. Here is what Sarah Palin told Charlie Gibson during her interview on ABC: "I think you are a cynic because show me where I have ever said that there's absolute proof that nothing that man has ever conducted or engaged in has had any affect, or no affect, on climate change." Here is what she said last year: "I'm not a doom and gloom environmentalist like Al Gore blaming the changes in our climate on human activity."

"There is a very powerful pattern of Sarah Palin's difficulty with telling the truth. Here we have some clear facts and chronology about events in the public record that happened only a couple of weeks ago and Sarah Palin's stories are hopelessly contradictory. This pattern of her outright and constant deception is now unmissable." ? The Atlantic

?I thought Palin's speech was quite good: well-written, well delivered. And, as I said earlier, I think she's a genuinely engaging person, and comes across very well. There were just a couple of problems. One, which I have seen people notice.. is that it had very little substance. The other was that she told a lot of lies.? ? CBS News

McCain does have the woman who nearly drove HP into bankruptcy before bailing out with a 40 million dollar golden parachute and he has Phil Gramm just do a Google search for phil gramm + enron to see some of the wonders he has pulled off.

That said, I'm curious what you suggest we, the voters, do. The way I see it we are fucked either way. At this point we have to pick who we think will fuck us the least. It is kind of like asking, "would you like getting ass raped?" or "would you like getting ass raped with some spit on the dick for lube?"

And please don't just say Ron Paul.

Yeah. would be a lot better off if she would just take a spunk shot to the eye for half a million.

House Republicans refused to support the Henry Paulson/Chris Dodd compromise bailout plan yesterday afternoon, even after the New York Times reported that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson got down on one knee to beg Nancy Pelosi to compromise. One of the sticking points, as Senator Lindsey Graham explained later, wasn’t a lack of begging but a poison pill that would push 20% of all profits from the bailout into the Housing Trust Fund — a boondoggle that Democrats in Congress has used to fund political-action groups like ACORN and the National Council of La Raza

Fucking classic GFY comedy considering "Dubya's" series of life failures. Corporate and otherwise.

Many seem to agree the problem really started to set in when interest rates went up and people could no longer afford the home. If they made he loans fixed rate so that people could continue to pay the amount they were able to afford for the life of the loan would this have happened?

It is clear that none of the candidates getting coverage are fit for office. I already know whats going to happen and it will be one for the record books... Believe it! Won't be much longer now.

Now where did I put that damn tin foil hat, hmmm...

Dan Quayle was far more unqualified than Palin and yet Bush 1 still won the election in 1988.

Palin is the best thing McCain has going for his campaign. She generates big crowds and excitement.

And lest one forget how badly the current Bush stumbled in answering basic questions in interviews back in 2000 and yet still won ...

To digress a bit, while one can debate the 2000 election results ... Bush won again in 2004 despite his apparant lack of knowledge about many things and mishandling of the war.

Bottom line is Americans like "new" ... Palin is "new" ... plus she is relatively young and hot!

If anyone were to drop out, it would be Biden or, as crazy as it sounds, McCain for health reasons...

And there is another possibility - it's way out there, but sadly plausable ... if something very bad happened to Obama, then likely Hillery Clinton would be nominated with Biden as her running mate.

With all that said, most likely McCain, with help from Bush and friends, will pull an October surprise - think terror alerts, war mongering, etc ... and edge out Obama in some key states to win just like Bush did twice.

Ron

I've been saying for a while that I think our kicked up military action in Afghanistan and now even in parts of Pakistan are Bush working hard to get Bin Laden. If he could some how capture or confirm with evidence that Bin Laden has been killed it would really help McCain out.

Also, I think the main reason people are attacking Palin for her lack of experience is that McCain is old and has had cancer 4 times. He, more than any first time candidate in recent history, is a threat to die in office so the qualifications of his VP should be looked at closely.

Agreed 100%!!! It's too bad that much effort and research went into that video with that many facts - that they wouldn't show the Republicans who were also on the take, and how some Republican policies helped this situation become the problem it is.

My brother never votes and says much the same thing. If everyone who didn't vote because they don't like either candidate actually voted for a 3rd party candidate that party would get enough votes to start getting federal matching funds for future elections and we could be on our way to getting a legit 3rd part that could potentially offer an actual alternative.

I will most likely be voting for Bob Barr. I'm in a state that will be going to Obama without much question so because of the outdated badly needing to be removed electoral college system my vote won't really matter. If I vote for Obama he still wins the state if I vote McCain he still loses so I will vote for Barr in hopes that he can somehow muster up 5% of the popular vote. He is polling at around 1% so it is a long shot, but at least my vote will count.

True. But, I've basically been a Republican since I could think for myself. But, I didn't vote for Bush last time and I'm not voting for McCain this time. I do like Palin - quite a bit actually - but much like Obama - she is not ready for the job. 5 - 10 years, perhaps. I would never vote for Obama because he is a socialist - at least Clinton, understands that this is a Capitalist nation - even though she panders on social issues to what she thinks is her base.

Either way, I cannot vote for anyone who I believe is detrimental to the office they are running for. I dont care who they are.
