say a site gets 5% french visitors continuously, do you think a french tour etc would be a good move? what % do you think would be the point where a translation is a good sales point

Dont want 50 translations in all kinda languages so german french spanish maybe japanese would be my first pick, bananabrandy already has spanish and its a good move

oh and cause no biz thread should be posted without a nice boobies pic

In the google webmaster tools section there is a little include that will display a set of flags, you pick the languages and all the surfer needs to do is click the flag for their country and google translates the page.

This may be a good way to judge the value of doing a full on translation.

There is quite a few of them, you would need to check them out for validity.

I would think you can figure that out mathematically. Please feel free to correct me.

Average first page conversion of unique visitors. Which lets pretend is 1:100 (math sake)
5% of 100 = 5 unique french visitors that could convert.
You would need 20 times that to get 1 conversion, = 20,000 uniques per French join.

1 join has an average income of X. Lets pretend 50.00 (math sake)
Translation has a cost of Y. Lets pretend 400.00 per language. (math sake)
You need 8 French joins to pay for the conversion.

8 joins = 160,000 French visitors needed to pay for this tour conversion.
I am sure you can figure out from there how long based on average, how many total uniques you will need (with or without growth rate, not including any bumps from French searches either)

Then again I am tired and also very medicated right now. I may be 100% wrong, and I did not check my math. Just started typing as I was thinking which could backfire.

didnt look at it this way - if more webm would look at it this way there would be a whole lotta more translated sites imho

I looked at it like: put a geo script or 4 flags on the top of the site, would someone from France click the french flag or just do a signup on the english main site?

I know germans prefer german language above all, dutch are used to english, so a dutch translation wouldnt put more sales down or better ratios.

In other words: if you see a Hungarian flag on a site, and youre born there yet living in the US for instance, would you still click that flag and join easier then on the english site?

Cost effectively its worth it imho - its more a way of am I gonna put 4 flags on top of every site to see better ratios.

When looking at your stats, you also have to factor in fraud. Lot's of countries, with lots of traffic are simply not worth translating.

You should also look into billing options. Netbilling and CCbill can help, see who is converting and from where. Then you can look at other billing options.

still that doesnt do it imho, not all spanish browser surfers go to the spanish tour of bananabrandy and join from there, they also go to the english tour and join from there

Its a matter of is it a good idea - more links to tours surfers can click and dont understand is not what I want

Besides Pancho I dont know anyone who has the small flags up and has some stats, anyone?

Don't use the google automatic translator, it translate like shit as far as I've heard and once you translate like shit, you would have a bad feeling from your visitors...

Just my 2cents...

If you want your site to be translated into any kind of language get in touch with me, I have some contacts with a few good translators who work for kindly cheap... =)

Are you translating the member area as well? A french visitor seeing a french tour might get kinda pissed off if they join and it's all in english inside.
