Yes, it's called the last ditch efforts of the republicans trying to prove they have some control on the economy so you'll vote for their party. Shit like this always happens a few weeks before an election. Don't be fooled.

The weakening demand, global recession, and stock market "crash" have nothing to do with it?

Unless traders decide to stage another phony bubble, oil should stay low. The arguments about demand were always bogus. Some people are saying even at these low levels oil is still too high which sounds right. It should be at around 60-70 a barrel.

The price was high, partially, because of the weak dollar.

Now that currency and economy's around the world are crashing and catching up to the dollar. The price comes down. Same for food, and other commodities. If you have not noticed in the past few weeks.

Start.

I saw gas for 2.79 today in GA.

But Diesel is still 4 something.

Everyone laughs at that but that's part of the reason everything costs more. All of you need diesel fuel in one way or another and you all pay for it.

But most people don't have a clue.

They keep the price of diesel up because transport companies don't care one bit.

They just pass the cost on. (to you) in higher prices for the goods you buy.

Everything gets trucked in one way or another.

All your groceries in your frig took diesel fuel to make it there for example.

Gasoline for your personal vehicle is just a small insignificant cost. Diesel rules the world.

isn't it funny how fast the oil companies and government train us consumers to where $1.19 seems psychologically like a really low price

it wasn't hardly that long ago that thought of the future possibility of gas over a dollar a litre was disturbing

I agree with you BV, but the transportation companies get killed by high prices too. My brother runs a trucking company and it puts some serious pressure on him as well as the independent truckers.

Many factors.

1. One is that in 2006 the US and Europe adopted ultra low sulfur diesel standards. This has increased the refining cost for diesel.

2. Another is taxes. The Federal tax on diesel is 6 cents higher on diesel than regular gas. Different states tax diesel differently so you might see even wider numbers than here in different states. example: california's diesel taxes are 8 cents higher than on regular gasoline.

3. Worldwide diesel demand has been increasing at a pretty good clip.

Some recent numbers

Regular Gasoline Diesel
Crude Oil: $2.76 $2.76
Refining: $.38 $.60
Distribution/Marketing $.22 $.48
Taxes $.42 $.48
Total: $3.78 $4.30
