step by step install of os x on non-Apple Intel machines
Purely for fun and to get a geeky sense of achievement when it works, but have a look at
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/20/macosx_on_a_pc/ It does work - the guy used AMD and had trouble when software update updated, but the last security update on Intel proved no probs for me when I put it through yesterday. Great fun!! I particularly like the comments on the screens... "The Kalyway license page. Its not quite clear what we're agreeing to, as this is pirated software. But hey, at least it looks official."

Well, as a mac guy, I'm happy either way (whether you buy the legit apple products, or use pc parts that are compatible)... anything but Windows

As anyone that knows me will testify, I am probably the most useless person ever when it comes to Windows - my experience of it is an install of XP on VMWares Fusion earlier this year, purely for cross-site webpage testing. I've been mac for a very long time, and happy to slide BSD in beside it for the last 6 years or so. I had a Dell 1850 running BSD that I used for testing this install and surprisingly it worked first time.

![]() Yeah, unfortunately, I grew up on Windows and I know what a piece of shit it is inside and out. When I made the switch to mac, it was very welcome because I already had BSD experience, so the switch was easy. Of course the fact that is just simply works is great too. I think Apple should start a campaign for windows users, where they offer them a 6 month trial of OS X, and if they like it, they can buy it and ditch their windows OS.
