Ice Cube got play back when Boyz N the Hood came out, and has had success with films like Three Kings, Barbershop, and the original Friday.

You're kidding right? Most of Tupac's mainstream movies got lots of press. Notice I said 'mainstream'. That's the diff. Independent movies have a tough time getting press regardless of who's in them.

I do believe Dre is Gay. Tupac was close to him and he mentioned it on several of his songs (you're fruity as this alizee

) and his former boss Suge Knight also mentioned it in an interview. Of course he wants to keep that shit behind closed doors because it doesn't really fit his hardcore image (although people that know Dre well know that he never was hardcore - before NWA he was a preppy DJ with music so lame you couldn't imagine...

As for Eminem, he's just fucking big right now, that's why all the press. Tupacs movies were big too at the time, Ice Cube is just not big enough to get the same press. Although I do think he's a great actor (Boyz N The Hood, Tress Pass (also with Ice T), Friday)

First, ?Eminem? is a white rapper in an area that is predominantly black

Second: Being a white rapper in a predominantly black environment, he has gained the respect of his peers as someone who can hold his own in any arena.

Third: His rapping, while some would say controversial, plays into the more hardcore segment of today?s music, which is 2nd to only "pop mucis"..

2. 8Mile Soundtrack is #1 w/Billboard
3. 5 other Rap/Hip Hop artists are in the top 20 on the Billboard chats.

Fourth: It?s only natural for someone to get exposure like this when one exceeds and/or excells in an area where others are doomed to fail....and have.

Fifth: We all pretty much know that what's been said about his life growing up is true...unlike another white rapper who never could remember what he said the day before....

My friend also represents Old Dirty Bastard and was with him the last time he went to Jail.

I heard some songs of Em that never got released. He is amazing

Trust me its not about having a credible raper who make it for a new rapper. its the guys who make the beats for there songs that make the record.

I step away for a couple of hours and came back to see this thread got even funnier.

Dude, I know everyone at Dreamworks urban from John McClain on down. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Viscious is not going to have anywhere near the success Eminem has. Skills don't matter as much as affilliation. Viscious has no important freinds or crew backing him. He can spend all the money on tracks he wants to but it doesn't matter. He needs some freinds.

There are tons of artists on other labels buying tracks from The Neptunes, Just Blaze, and more but without the key affilliations they don't win. Most of them you never even hear of unless you are in the business. There was a label that did this with every artist called Quest that never had hits. It was disgusting.

Hopefully your friends act does some units. There is a great new promotion guy at Dreamworks named Garnett so he has some good backup but Viscious still needs some high level star affiliation.

I can't say how much money your freind makes from Eminem but I guarentee that Jeff and Mark Bass who started working with Em when he was 15 would have a bit to say about him taking credit for 'discovering' Eminem.

Actually Em was 'brought' to LA to compete in a rap competition called the Rap Olympics hosted by a now defunct magazine called Rap Pages. I know because I was there and was one of the sponsors.

While there they did what they could to shop Em's demo which was easy to do with every companies west coast A&R in the room at the time. It was more Paul and Em than anyone else. Even Jeff and Mark's connections were limited at the time although they had done some major work previously.

Also, do you know how hard it is to make millions on a couple of points? It's damn near impossible om 99% of all acts. It's especially hard when the acts you sign haven't even come out yet. Your friend has a lot of work to do to start making that kind of money and still a couple of years to do it. It takes more than one artist. He'll make more money doing a few large production deals or taking a large position after the next artist he deals with that he plays a larger role with blows up.

There were a lot of hands in the Eminem deal. Interscope, Aftermath, Eminem & Paul, Mark & Jeff, Wendy from Web - then whoever else (this MAY be where your freind comes in). Points usually don't get shared at that level.

I am not trying to argue with you because I know music isn't your first priority and the business isn't something you'v studied. But those are the facts.

(This is just MHO) First, ?Eminem? is a white rapper in an area that is predominantly black Second: Being a white rapper in a predominantly black environment, he has gained the respect of his peers as someone who can hold his own in any arena. Third: His rapping, while some would say controversial, plays into the more hardcore segment of today?s music, which is 2nd to only "pop mucis".. (Here is some nice information 1. He had the # video on MTV?s TRL 2. 8Mile Soundtrack is #1 w/Billboard 3. 5 other Rap/Hip Hop artists are in the top 20 on the Billboard chats. Fourth: It?s only natural for someone to get exposure like this when one exceeds and/or excells in an area where others are doomed to fail....and have. Fifth: We all pretty much know that what's been said about his life growing up is true...unlike another white rapper who never could remember what he said the day before.... Late!

Also trust me when this new rapper Vicious comes out you will see I've been in the Recording studio with them and heard his shit he is very good even Em said so. My friend also represents Old Dirty Bastard and was with him the last time he went to Jail. I heard some songs of Em that never got released. Dude, I know everyone at Dreamworks urban from John McClain on down. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Viscious is not going to have anywhere near the success Eminem has. Skills don't matter as much as affilliation. Viscious has no important freinds or crew backing him. He can spend all the money on tracks he wants to but it doesn't matter. He needs some freinds. There are tons of artists on other labels buying tracks from The Neptunes, Just Blaze, and more but without the key affilliations they don't win. Most of them you never even hear of unless you are in the business. There was a label that did this with every artist called Quest that never had hits. It was disgusting. Hopefully your friends act does some units. There is a great new promotion guy at Dreamworks named Garnett so he has some good backup but Viscious still needs some high level star affiliation. I can't say how much money your freind makes from Eminem but I guarentee that Jeff and Mark Bass who started working with Em when he was 15 would have a bit to say about him taking credit for 'discovering' Eminem. Actually Em was 'brought' to LA to compete in a rap competition called the Rap Olympics hosted by a now defunct magazine called Rap Pages. I know because I was there and was one of the sponsors. While there they did what they could to shop Em's demo which was easy to do with every companies west coast A&R in the room at the time. It was more Paul and Em than anyone else. Even Jeff and Mark's connections were limited at the time although they had done some major work previously. Also, do you know how hard it is to make millions on a couple of points? It's damn near impossible om 99% of all acts. It's especially hard when the acts you sign haven't even come out yet. Your friend has a lot of work to do to start making that kind of money and still a couple of years to do it. It takes more than one artist. He'll make more money doing a few large production deals or taking a large position after the next artist he deals with that he plays a larger role with blows up. There were a lot of hands in the Eminem deal. Interscope, Aftermath, Eminem & Paul, Mark & Jeff, Wendy from Web - then whoever else (this MAY be where your freind comes in). Points usually don't get shared at that level. I am not trying to argue with you because I know music isn't your first priority and the business isn't something you'v studied.
