Let me straighten out a very popular misconception + rant

what makes everyone think that cams and dating are immune to the current economic situation?

i know that presumption to be untrue as a matter of fact. obviously i wont tell you who i talk to, or about what, or how i know anything, but i will tell you that if you believe that cam and dating websites and their revenues are unaffected by the current economic crisis, you are sadly mistaken.

so, while the focus is on all of the damage that tube sites are doing to people's businesses, do not lose focus on the fact that the economy is playing a much, much larger role than you may want to accept. of course giving away too much content IS affecting the market, but i think many of you are giving them too much credit.

until someone can standup and do something about it, i'm pretty much tired of hearing about it. that's why i stopped crying about it. play the game by their rules. stop letting people kick you in the balls. kick back, or stfu. it's starting to look pathetic.

fyi: watching the fsc panel on the whole piracy thing made me laugh and and the same time cry. what a fucking joke. if this is the solution i bet the tube dudes are laughing their balls off. can't even get past the dog and pony stroke shows in the most trying necessary time in the business. this industry better pray that the google/viacom thing goes well, because you're all really fucked if it doesn't. people here can't save a fucking wheat thin from a bowl of tomato soup, let alone an entire industry.

that oughta hold me for a while.

Nice rant. Let's go play some golf and kill time while we wait for the tubes to reach saturation and wipe out the entire industry in one fell swoop.

Hmmm, seems all you really need to do is post non-adult content on the tube sites and when they remove it they demonstrate that they are monitoring and controlling the content; thus, losing their ISP safe harbor argument.

conversely, If they don't remove the content, just flood them with public domain bullshit.

You know, I'll tell you what, and you can feel free to disagree.
Someone recently asked me about tube sites for an interview I did with the CBC, and, granted I'm slow, but it came to me at that moment.
First of all, in no way do I support piracy. Content producers work hard to produce good content, and they have a right to monetize that content as they see fit.
On the other hand, tube sites aren't going anywhere. Just like TGPs back in the day, astute companies are taking the initiative and finding ways to work with them for mutual benefit.
The companies that are yelling the loudest are the traditional studios. And for good reason. They are producing hard product that is easy to rip off on the web. In addition, because they haven't seen a free content model in the past, their reaction is to sue, instead of find a way to work together, which is something the online market has done well for years.
I'm not suggesting that tube sites aren't bad for business. Free content does hurt pay sites, cam sites, dating sites, and so forth. And Airek is right when he says that the economy plays a large factor in the current state of the industry, a state that is affecting everyone. However, there are many aspects to the tube story. It's not as simple as you're with or against tubes. The fact of the matter is, no one has a choice. The question is, how are you going to react?

so starting back in 2002 when the music industry started to lose serious money from online file sharing was is also because of bad economy?

economy plays a big role as well no doubt but when you search google for a term and 5 of the results are links to full videos of that niche how can that not hurt?

It does hurt, but the mistake that the music industry made was that they decided to start trying to sue consumers - many of them college students. I don't know about you, but that would turn me off of buying CDs for the rest of my life. That isn't the answer.
We, as an industry, are seriously experiencing a combination of negative factors right now. The bulk of free content is one of those factors. The down economy is another.

On a more serious note, it's hard to argue against the idea that all dimensions of the adult industry are seeing a decline in revenue, but personally I'm interested to see if webcams and dating will fare better than the other traditional facets of the online adult industry.

They may just find that their losses will plateau at a certain point, even in the face of the approaching economic crisis since there will more than likely be an increased need for a "frustration outlet", and the availability of free porn can serve that purpose while allowing the porn consumer a few extra bucks in their entertainment budget that could be spent on dating and cams.

I believe that with shrinking profit margins, we're going to see a lot of content producers start to pull in the reins of their content. This could be through employing content removal companies, investing in surfer-friendly DRM solutions, and even litigation against repeat infringers.

On the other side of the coin, I think we'll see some more mainstream companies, suffering from decreased revenues as well, extend an olive branch of marketing peace to us lowly porn dudes, and they just may start accepting our traffic as an attempt to tap into a new source of income. This is a big "maybe", though, but I feel it will happen at least to some degree since adult entertainment is becoming more accepted and publicized. See all the movies and documentaries coming out now about porn?

All the ingredients for new and traditionally unheard of marketing opportunities are being slowly added to the cauldron of the future: a liberal administration, a creeping desperation for income, a growing dependence on the Internet for entertainment, and an expanding awareness of sex as something you shouldn't be guilty about... double, double toil and trouble!

i sell cams and dating pretty much exclusively
im feeling the pinch. i started a thread the other day on the fact that my PPE/PPP (Pay per email/pay per profile) was up over 19% and my PPS was down over 10%

thats a clear shift to me

ofcourse that thread fell off the front of gfy so we could have another POST IN THIS THREAD TO WIN 10 DOLLARS
