Quantum of Solace - review

I saw Quantum of Solace on Friday and was not that impressed.
There was no Q and no gadjects, which is a vital part of any james bond. There were not enough girls and the main girl they did feature enough. The car chase scene at the beginning of the movie like many of the action scenes cut between camera's to quickly...

Daniel Criaig is a good bond, and the fight scenes were good and overall it was entertaining however not the best bond movie for sure.

6 / 10 stars.

I saw it a week or so back. Not impressed.

However, I knew that is was not going to be the normal caliber. The Bond, James Bond is gone. As is the shaken not stirred, Q, and other things.

In an interview he mentioned this was all missing from this flick, but would return in subsequent films as 'Bond' developed.

At least he's better than Roger Moore...

Comcast has a bunch of bond movies "on demand" right now and I sure do love the old connery flix. Can't touch them. Bring back fun names like Pussy Galore dammit and comical evil villains!

It was a good action movie, more of a Die Hard type. Must agree on the no Bond factor.

I saw it opening night, and was extremely disappointed

It was just such a "who cares" style plot, and the villain wasn't very interesting... Not enough "cool spy" type action and too much raw Michael Bay style explosions and stuff.

I also noticed they didn't play the classic bond theme music during any of the movie

Most my disappointment is because I really liked Casino Royale and hoped this would be on the same level.

I loved it. Prefer the modern day Bond movies to the old ones. No gadgets, no fake bullshit.. Hot chicks, nice cars and lots of action. Daniel Craig is great as Bond I think.

I was honestly surprised how the red head english chick turned out to be hotter than that absolutely stunning russian chick from hitman and max payne.

Real strange niche she has going:

1. Hitman
2. Max Payne
3. Quantum of Solace

chick came out of nowhere.

But like i said, for some reason the red headed english chick was sexier to me

Casino royale is by far the best bond film ive seen, and apart from the new one ive seen all the other crappy bonds.

Not as good as Casino Royale.

I think they're trying to take Bond films to a more serious level. I watched Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies again a few weeks ago and cringed at some of the hammy acting.

I really got into it.
I've disliked previous bonds for being over the top. Too much smooth, too many uncrumpled suits, too many 1 button solutions to problems.

This bond is gritty, flawed and human. He's got real fighting skills. He gets hurt, frustrated, fatigued and in so deep he gets lost.

A little short, but for me, it was a double expresso

I agree with all this BUT ..

They needed to have the little Bond moments in it as well. Not cheesy stuff, but Q and a gadget or two. Money Penny and a bit of flirting , and a lot more womanizing. They tried to make this a Bourne Identity flick and while I love those this is a bond movie. (or should have been) Casino Royale was way better and a good balance of both. I hope they get back on track for the next one

for James Bond writers...

just a suggestion.. in any Bond movie, there has to be a bad guy of epic proportions who is threatening the destruction of the known (at least western) world. ... uhm.. the 1/2 queer gardener, trying to steal water didn't really cut it!

saw it today in orange county, 7/10. Not enough skin of the bond-girl in my opinion. Story line was boring and too many unrealistic chases. Not buying Daniel Craig as bond. Wasn't a fan of Casino Royale either. Bring back Pierce Brosnan...!!!

fake Bond. Really Die Hard type, i dont like James Bond from Bronx or London Docks okay? They couldnt afford Megan Fox or what? Though Max Payne and Hitman both sucked even more.

You just summed up the entire mindset of the movie industry as they roll out these "re-booted" franchises, like James Bond, Batman, etc. The Bourne Identity movies do the same thing: gritty, raw, much more realistic.

You click the system upgrade button and let it do the upgrade. Is that really something that's difficult for you?

ya cause my PS3 isn't online so I downloaded it onto my external drive but for some reason my PS3 doesn't find the update on the external drive even though it's in the right folder name and everything.. don't know if it doesn't like that it's a 1 tb drive.. so now i got to go in the other room and find my usb adaptor for my sony memory cards and try it that way.. (mine was from when they first came out and didn't have memory card slots)

The PS3 took us some tweaking to get working wirelessly with the network. The 360 worked instantly with their wireless dongle.

Drag a cable to plug it in. Sony is pretty consistent with their updates and new functionality. If you haven't done any of the upgrades, there's a big chance that's what is the reason they're not playing.

Yep it sounds like a firmware issue. I had similar thing happen with our blue ray player, I had to goto the sony site and burn a disk for new firmware and put it in player. I need to check to see if the player has a USB socket in it next time to connect a wireless adapter..

I just watched it as well
It was ok....but yeah it didn't seem like a James Bond movie....I thought the overall plot just wasnt much of a story, There was nothing fantastical about it, like others have mentioned...not so many gadgets..and the villans were like regular greedy wall street creeps like we have in the real world rather than fictional supervillans! Maybe they were trying to go "reality based" by dealing with contemporary social issues....but I think overall it detracted from the usual calliber of the "Bond " experience we are all familliar with.

This bond is gritty, flawed and human. He's got real fighting skills. He gets hurt, frustrated, fatigued and in so deep he gets lost.

A little short, but for me, it was a double expresso
Thats not what Bond is though, people who watch it like it for how over the top it is. Casino Royale was a good mix of both and it was excellent. Solace basically had no story line and way to much motion blur, and that was watching as bluray.

Death race was ok but it was nothing at all like the original, the original they just drove around the streets racing and running as many people over as they could was a 100x better than racing around a prison.
