Do I really have to spend an extra $1000 on a camera.

I've got an option here. I was told to buy a canon 20d with a Canon 24-105mm lense. I'm looking at $1100-1500 for all that.

I can get a Canon Rebel XT with a 18-55 lense for $400 or a little less, will this be adequate to get the job done?

I'm buying this all on credit so if I don't absolutely need higher end I don't want it. The webmaster I want to sell to recommended that I get a canon 20d with the 24-105mm lense.

Let me know guys...

$400 on credit? you have bigger things to worry about than the quality of your pictures.

If I were you Id get a 40d twice as much!!!

the quality lies in the lens which is where your money goes, equal if not more than the body itself.

It really depends on what you want to shoot and how quality of content youre looking to achieve...

You didnt tell us that part...

Buying a good camera upfront goes a long ways to your future... I recomend buying the best you can, you will thank yourself later...

Does your skill with a camera justify spending the extra money on it?

A bad photographer with a great camera, still takes bad pictures.

you will be fine with either, but you may find that the 18-55 is not as good quality and doesnt get you the same close-ups as you would with the 24-105.
lens choice is probably more important.

Check into a Canon 400D XTI. Should be able to pick up one of those for around $500. Make sure that whatever lens you get has an image stabilizer built in too. The XTI is a step up from the XT and so much more camera. You will be a lot happier with it.

a QUICK scan: http://www.butterflyphoto.com/search...el+XSi&x=0&y=0

Rebel XSI is the one I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on. Like others have said, lens is the most important thing really.

I am NOT a content producer, I just love taking pictures and am a hobbyist. In the "cheap" DSLR's the rebel XSI is badass at the price.

To my mind even 20D will not give you a Hi-end quality.
