I guess the airlines really are hurting

I just came back from visiting my parents for the Thanksgiving break. Normally, when I take the flights I took they are packed in both directions. When I have done them for recent Thanksgivings (exact same flight times and numbers) and barely had breathing space on the planes.

This year, on the way over (the day before the day before Thanksgiving) the airports on both sides of the Atlantic were nearly empty. When I got to the States I was literally from my flight and to the car in 30 minutes (usually like an hour and half thing with all the waiting in lines).

Then on the flight back to London there were less than 20 people on my whole flight. Which, was great for me but must suck for them. There were three flights in the same area of the airport going overseas at the same time from other airlines (another to the UK, one to Paris and one to Spain) and there were just about the same amount of people waiting to get on those too.

I smell good deals to and from Europe coming up in the near future.

Prices are dropping, but for how long can they maintain it?

Noticed the same thing on an international flight. Normally we are packed in like sardines and the last two times I had three seats to myself and could lay down. It was great.

I don't know but unless they did a ton of freight on the flights I was on there was no way they made money from them. Especially as if you are flying transatlantic you still get two free bags.

I think the further that commercial flying gets from it's introduction of a quality experience with doting servants and lavish entertainment and meals and gifts and toys for your kids, the more people will wonder why they put up with the shit just to fucking travel.

What is it now, show up 3 hours early for a rectal exam and public humiliation with your $400 ticket only to find it's gonna cost you $80 for luggage, $15 for a sip of water and $200 for a SEAT!????

Just sayin'.

After 10 days of eating Philly food it probably would have been warranted too.

Yeah, this was a first for me and especially in both directions. I usually get the seat back guy too and not being the thinnest person around that usually means no way the tray is going to be comfortable to eat from either. This time, had my food on one tray, drink on another and psp on mine ..feel bad for the guys that paid for business or first and didn't get much better...well, not that bad.

Well, now may be that time. This was only between East coast USA and Europe. It is even more expensive from your area so if it is cost doing it I would imagine those aren't much better. When I landed in Heathrow, an Air New Zealand flight from LA had just landed too (which is actually a more popular route then you would think for a NZ based airline..lot of around the world guys take it) and there were barely any of them around the luggage belt either.

Prices will probably stay the same so the airlines can eke out some profit. But consumer demand is way down.

I flew from Detroit to montego bay and back a week ago and both flights were completely full.

But it was the first non stop service from Detroit for the season.

I wonder how many transatlantic flights this time of year our business travellers (who aren't doing it at the moment) vs pleasure which I would guess Montego Bay would be. Dunno.

Our flight home from the Dom. Rep in August, the snacks they sold on the plane were out of date. No wait, expensive and out of date...

Scheduled airline or a package holiday thing? Either way that is gross.
